Following the removal of Gallas on Friday, I was left wondering. Who is really good enough in our current squad to lead by example? Who is bold enough to dish out on the pitch bollockings when needed? Who has enough determination to lead the younger lads through tough away matches at Stoke, Man City and the like???
Gallas was certainly not the answer… But is Cesc?
He himself is still only 21… and while there is no doubt that he is now our most prized possession, is this not putting to much pressure on young shoulders? Before the City disaster I was hoping someone would step up to the mark and show the qualities required. After the City disaster it was clear that no-one in the team that day could even come close to it… so it has been left to Cesc.
It will no doubt be the most popular choice… but it does not make it the best choice. For me, this once again demonstrates a disturbing lack of depth and leadership within our paper-thin squad. Gone are the days with leaders in every part of the pitch… (just four years ago). Good luck Cesc… I think you may need it!!!
