Arsenal interim head coach Renee Slegers has continued to bat away questions over whether she will become the Gunners’ permanent manager, with her side unbeaten in five games under the Dutchwoman’s leadership.

In all five of her pre-match press conferences, Slegers has been asked in different ways whether she would like to take the Arsenal head coach job on a permanent basis, and if she is in the running to do so, and on every occasion she has been able to play every question with a straight bat.

Slegers has repeatedly stressed that she is focused on 'staying in the moment’, and has kept her head down and got on with the job, leaving the media and fans with no real idea of what her personal ambitions are in North London.

On Friday, Slegers was asked again about her time in charge, with two games remaining in her interim spell: “I think it’s good for the team if there is a permanent solution, and I know the club is really working hard on it in the background.”

Questioned why she perhaps would not want to take the job permanently, Slegers jokingly responded: “That was nice! Why I wouldn’t want this job... I think this job, it’s a very fun job, it’s a demanding job as well, but again I don’t think so much about that.

“It’s mostly in the press conferences I have to think about it! Because people ask it, but otherwise, honestly I don’t, because there’s so much I have to do on a day-to-day. We work really hard early mornings to evenings in the moment.

“And then I go home, I want to play with my son- my three-year-old, and then I go to bed really early, so honestly there’s not much else in my life at the moment!”

Arsenal have won their last two games under Slegers’ interim leadership, and travel to rivals Tottenham on Saturday.
