Arsenal consider move to Hackney Marshes to build 125,000 'superstadium'

Hackney Marshes Sunday teams to relocate to Tottenham Hotspur Stadium as standard 'not that different'

Arsenal are understood to be considering moving to Hackney Marshes to build a 'superstadium' holding up to 125,000 fans.

The news comes following Manchester United's decision to build a new Old Trafford with a capacity of 100,000.

Similar to the Red Devils' plan, the ambitious scheme involves utilising the nearby Regent's Canal, which passes through Hackney Wick, and then continues towards Hackney Marshes.

The club plan to build large parts of the stadium off-site before shipping it via the network of canals to Hackney Marshes.

The club have even made provision for the numerous Sunday League sides that play at Hackney Marshes to be relocated to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium every week.

Loof Lirpa, captain of Sporting Hackney FC said: "At first we were a bit shocked, as there is such a tradition of playing Sunday football here on the Marshes.

"But when we were told that we could play our home games at Spurs every week, it was a relief, as the standard among many of the teams that play here on Hackney Marshes is not that different to Spurs."
