No Arshavin, no season ticket renewal

One fan thinks that if the club continue to penny pinch, then fans will do just the same ahead of 2009/10

No Arshavin, no season ticket renewal

Arshavin: Arsenal should pay up

Only one word could describe January 1st to the present date – torture. And no this isn’t the fact that I have had the flu, having a sh*t time at work, been constantly tired from late nights etc - oh no no no. Of course it’s the transfer window and being an Arsenal fan this means only one thing.

Where last window it was Samir Nasri, this time round its Andrei Arshavin, the Zenit St Petersburg player. Three weeks ago we were linked with the player yet we appear no closer to completing the deal and in truth a lot of us have no idea if it will ever be completed. Now we know this. Zenit turned down our first bid. Ok fine. Well where is our second bid? I cannot understand how our transfers get dragged out so bloody long.

Surely it is a case of receiving their refusal via fax or email, then going back (or not at all) with an improved offer. There, done, two seconds. I know Arsenal are very tight lipped when in negotiations with players but they have actually commented, with Wenger is saying “We’ll we will stick to our principles, if it doesn’t happen it doesn’t happen.”

Oh great. I’m sorry but Arsenal constantly want a super player for a super price. This doesn’t happen anymore. I know money is tight but they should bloody well gamble and pay the extra four or five million to secure this player. Our creativity has all but diminished and Arshavin is just what we need to lift the team but also us the fans. I’m sorry but if we do not sign him I see greater ramifications down the line.

Now I love the club very much, I have spent so much money like the rest of you supporting the team through thick and thin and I hate the fact that I am moaning about the club but this is what could happen.

1. Wenger talks about Tommy, Eduardo and Cesc coming back as three new signings. Well firstly the club have misdiagnosed Tommy so many times who actually believes he will be back in March! Not me. Eduardo is back yet he is waiting for a f**king reserve game! Why are we not arranging behind closed doors games for him! He has been back from his hammy injury two bloody weeks.

Ultimately only Eduardo will be back this season but it will probably be too late and we will struggle and this will result in number 2...

2. People will actually question whether they should renew for next season. I know hundreds of people who are considering this. Club level membership is up for renewal this March. I can’t imagine what these supporters are thinking what with their fat salaries and spare cash to some extent no more. Should they pay such lavish prices for a team who could be playing in the UEFA Cup? No don’t think so. It’s easy to say ‘f*** them they are not real fans anyway’ but at the end of the day the club has structured the stadium with these people in mind. It’s their own fault.

So we could be in the UEFA Cup come end of April, a club who have built their business model on continuous Champions League football with loads and loads of club level members pulling out. The consequences of this are severe.

Arsenal please sign Arshavin. I can’t take anymore Newsnow, I can’t. Invest in the playing squad we need. And finally realise how much we care as fans, because we do. We all want the best for the team. Some will be able to articulate this better than me I’m sure but give us hope, because in these uncertain times we cannot help but question.
