Everyone is focussing on Arshavin but the leaks that are coming out in the press (if they are to be believed) are that we are trying to sign defensive players that are young and have top experience;

Centre backs:
Mobido Diakite (Lazio)
Serdar Tasci (Stuttgart)

And the one I really liked the look of was Sebastián Battaglia from Argentina - midfield hard man that has played with Boca Juniors all the way to a Libertadores final. A perfect Flamini replacement.

We are definitely on the hunt for defenders and defensive midfielders. If Arsene doesn't rate who we have now then why don't we sign someone up asap?

And let's not forget that the agents of Sylvain Distin and - in midfield - Stephane M-Bia and Gokhan Inler all said we made offers for them in the summer. If true, it shows that Arsene doesn't rate our defensive players a great deal.

I wish we would use the budget for Arshavin on these areas as we have had problems there for a while now. Arshavin may be a box office signing for some but players with fight like Mascherano, Vidic, Terry, Essien and even Gareth Barry get crowds into stadiums and on their feet just as much as nippy Russian wingers like Arshavin that look like clones of Reyes, Wiltord and Hleb to me. He'll have to do a lot to show he is in the same class as Overmars, Pires or Ljungberg or maybe even Rosicky, Walcott and Nasri - and this area is not really our priority. Get some players with fight in!
