Reflections on Spurs, forthcoming games and Tony Adams’ sacking

Screw up again this month and it’s hello UEFA Cup

Adams: How about assistant to Wenger?

As said in Sunday’s online editorial, Spurs away was a good point under the circumstances. But it’s hardly done us any favours in the long run. We can’t keep dropping too many points against the lower teams. It was nice to see Eduardo about so it can’t be long till we see him on the pitch.

We now have a crucial next few weeks that could determine our season. There is the FA Cup replay with Cardiff, which we should win, then we have two league games at home against Fulham and Sunderland and one against Roma in the Champions League. Screw up in any of those and it really is goodbye Champions League, hello UEFA Cup.

With Villa winning yet again, three points at the Lane was a must, but the ref put paid to that, ruling out a perfectly good goal from Eboue, who was one of our best players on the field up until he got his marching orders. A foul was given but I think Woodgate's momentum resulted in him clashing with his team-mate and Eboue picked up the pieces and put it in the back of the net. , Had that been allowed, I feel we’d have made it two or three. Wenger was right, it is unacceptable. I back the boss 100% on this and refs like that cost you points and trophies at the end of the season.

We are handicapped at the moment but every game between now and May becomes a cup final for us. We’ve lost Ade for three weeks, but we’ve hardly noticed him since the turn of the year, it’s a time for Eddie (thank God he’s back) and Arshavin to shine in the coming weeks because boy, we need them now. The only saving grace of the weekend was that Chelski dropped points at home otherwise we’re really in the brown stuff.

It’s a shame about Tony Adams getting the chop. He just wasn’t given enough time, 20-odd games is ridiculous. Look at Zola's West Ham. They had a run when Zola took over which was something like Pompey's and they didn’t give him the chop, and now they’re reaping the benefits. Tony made some good signings in January and before the Liverpool game he was apparently given four games to turn it around. They were unlucky to lose despite leading with five minutes left so why sack him now? The same with Paul Ince and Iain Dowie.

The other thing is, he’s lost Diarra, Muntari and Mendes and not been able to find replacements as he didn’t get the financial backing that Redknapp got. If you keep sacking young managers less than a year into a job, what message does that send out to the rest? I feel though, that like Roy Keane, he'll be back in some capacity. Assistant to Wenger anyone?
