The Ashburton Grove Stadium Mystery

Why are there so many empty seats at Arsenal home matches before the game’s even finished? Are fans being abducted up by alien spacecraft?

I am a season ticket holder and have been for pretty much twenty years. I love the Arsenal with a passion, as do most true fans. However, I felt compelled to write after attending the Champions League home game with Porto.

I was wondering by the end how TH14 and the rest of the players must be feeling after giving their all and putting on, in my opinion, a brilliant performance, when they looked around the stadium to show their appreciation of our support, and found that (yet again) the stadium was half empty.

I know from my own point of view, I wouldn’t be very happy and possibly a little aggrieved. I mean what do these people (who are leaving early) want, is it just the Johnny come lately’s or rather the Johnny go earlies!! Personally, I wish they’d just sod off to Chavski! Do they leave the theatre early? Do they leave their holidays early? What is the point of going to a game and missing the end? Whatever it is, it needs to be addressed and very quickly, because with each game it seems to be getting worse!

If this carries on, I believe it will adversely affect the fans’ bond with the players. Henry recently admitted that he loved the atmosphere at Anfield; was that perhaps a little dig at our fair-weather ‘fans’?

I know it happens at other clubs, but against Porto we were two-nil up and it seems to have gotten worse with each game so far this season. Certainly the ‘prawn sandwich circle’ has had loads of seats empty at every game so far. So if you really don’t want to be there, don’t bother coming in the first place and allow some true fans the opportunity to support their team, at least they’ll appreciate it!

Yes there have been transport problems, but we all have to contend with that. I do not know one genuine fan who leaves ten minutes before the end. We need rid of these idiot ingrates as soon as possible, before it damages team spirit.

So please, if you are reading this and are a persistent offender, please don’t do it, consider your actions and the negative affect they are having on our great club. The players need our support, not ninety percent of the game, all of it!
