Change of philosophy is needed

Cesc: Money from sale could help rebuild

A lot has been said after a crippling couple of weeks. It is quite clear the squad isn’t strong enough. Although the first 11 on their day could beat anyone, when injuries occur, the likes of Rosicky, Eboue, Denilson, Diaby, Bendtner etc are not Arsenal quality. They all have talent, but they have shown time again they are not up to the fight. I do think Wenger has done admirably when considering how much he has spent over the last few years. The time has now come to change from developing players, to buying proven established stars who can add a winning mentality to the dressing room.

Although it sounds strange, I think Fabregas going to Barcelona in the summer would be a blessing in disguise. He is the captain but isn’t a leader in the way previous Arsenal captains have been. If we could get a sizeable amount for him and get a midfielder in the ilk of a Patrick Vieira and buy a commanding central defender, this would be better for the team. I do think a major weakness is up front, although Robin Van Persie has been phenomenal since returning from injury, he is injury prone and we need someone who when they get one chance e.g Bendtner against Barcelona, they take it. We were completely outplayed by Barcelona over two games but if he had controlled that properly, we would have been through. Although the referee was appalling, Wenger’s emphasis on this being the only reason we lost was bizarre.

The team desperately needs some fighting spirit. Players like Lansbury should be playing ahead of Denilson, perhaps Kyle Bartley should be recalled from Rangers, instead of playing Squillaci. I feel the squad is in a comfort zone. Wenger protects them unnecessarily by blaming the referee and going on about mental strength. This just gives them excuses for when they lose. Clearly he doesn’t want them to believe they aren’t good enough but certain players keep their places despite not playing to their potential. When the chips are down, how can you rely on the likes of Rosicky, Denilson and Arshavin to really galvanise the players.

I am still a big Wenger fan, I feel it would be a big shame if he left in the summer. The way things stand though, without Szczesney in goal and Djourou in defence I doubt we will be able to make a challenge for the title. I hope I am wrong. With Walcott returning, Fabregas and Van Persie coming back to form, it is possible. We don’t need Wenger to go, we just need him to change his philosophy, otherwise other teams will keep spending and we will go backwards. The team is only a few players short of being a truly quality one. He has to learn from this season, rebuild the squad and move forward.

@ CD No. You're wrong. I just think Chamakh has/had more heart. Before he was removed from the first team he was also more efficient, than Bendy. And 1 of them should be sold to raise funds. It's also a solution not to sell him as he's still better than the other 6 players I mentioned (+Fabianski), but I think we should only have 1 slower, physical player and we need at least 1 prolific, fast and technical scorer to replace van Persie, if injured. I don't hate Fabianski and Vela either. Bendtner/Chamakh would be better in combinations when we have 2 strikers in the pitch. Anyway it's just an idea about who should/could be sold. The rest of the team is either fantastic or ok/acceptable. By the way even this is a big job. Those I definitely don't want to see next year are Denilson (lazy, no talent, no heart, coward), Diaby (lazy, no heart, always slows attack down, always loses the ball), Almunia (too avarage, the other two are better and younger), Rosicky (slow, no fitness, no clue), Squilacci (not good enough to play with Kosser and he's older, so won't develop, we need space for a better one anyway). The decision will come down to the manager anyway, so don't worry.

typical i think im the only gunner left who actually likes bendtner! ok his touch should have been better but it was a harder chance than you think, plus any other game out of 100 he would have took that in his stride! firstly you cant blame a game on a sub (bendtner) who had only played 14mins for the loss against barca...as much as it pains me to say as he is my favourite player, fabregas looked terrible all game and set up one of THEIR GOALS, does he get any blame for the loss....NO!, which he shouldnt as its a team game! I think everybody needs to chill out and watch the premier league come to the emirates

Nonsense to sell Cesc. We don't even need it. Denilson, Diaby, Bendtner, Eboue, Almunia, Vela, Rosicky, Squilacci so 8 + some of the 17 players on loan. Also Wenger motivate Arshavin or sell him. I prefer the first solution. In the worst case Fabianski can be sold as well (if we buy a Stekelenburg with Chesny as a substirute). After thinking a lot I think he's just not motivated by Wenger. If that's not enough to rebuild I can eat my baseball cap. Suarez cost only 20 million for Pool!!! There are winners like him (so you can buy quality for relatively cheap) on the market Mr Wenger work for your money. If Cesc can see that the shite is out quality coming in he might stay on his own!!! And we will be formidable, or we continue this relatively expensive crap and keep losing. And all the stars will leave. Nasri will be the second to leave. @ Dean I will wait, but many people are fed up already with Wenger. He should redeem himself, or he will leave in disgrace from a declining club. For them winning this weak season will be nothing, if he does not reorganize the team and start using tactics. Braga and company already learned how to beat ours after 1 match!!! Income will be reduced shirt, souvenir sellings, lower attendance at stadium (also because of unbearably high prices, they will raise it again, who will pay 80-90 pounds for MEMBERS only for another ManU humiliation, otherwise it will be even higher), unfavorable sponsorship deal for a fading club and a lack of conquering of the asian market. He needs to change.

Sir Fabregas is one of the few gems we have, we must strive to keep him, selling him would give everyone an idea of the limited ambition at the club, and give out the wrong message to fans. The tip tap predictability of our game is also a very big problem, knowing what a team will do when you play them, makes defending very easy. How many times did you see nasri going outside the fullback saturday? answer NIL very predictable and easy to defend.

We can't defend.... I've never seen an Arsenal Team that couldn't defend win anything. Every corner against us at the moment I think the other team stands a really decent chance of scoring, and you don't win without a defence full stop. I know it, you know it , but does Wenger? I'm not sure he does.

I don't believe we will ever win anything with the squad the way it is. Eboue, Cliche, Denilson, Diaby, Chamakh, Bendtner - the list goes on. There are too many average players in the team. This is why many of the fans have written us off. We are more likely to finish 3rd/4th than 1st!

I agree to an extent that some players could be construed as being in the comfort zone. That said, we don't actually know what Wenger says to them behind closed doors. No, he doesn't admonish them in public but very few managers do usually to deflect attention away from a defeat. This talk of rebuilding is utterly staggering if I'm honest. We are SECOND in the league, three points behind the leaders with a game in hand and with a home game against the leaders to come. Yes, we could do with freshening up some areas and perhaps the likes of Rosicky and Diaby are coming to the end of the road with us, but talk of rebuilding is nonsensical in my view.

Can we wait until the end of the season before judging AW. We can still win the title. It is still very possible that Man Utd wont win anything this season and if that happens will anyone think about questioning Fergie, I dont think so. Keep the faith

Spot on about Lansbury. The boy's got fire in the belly. But I also think the world of Mark Randal-funny no one seems to recall him.Two useful players.Better than Denilson and rosicky at any rate.

I still can't quite get over that caption. 'Cesc: Money from sale could help rebuild'. 'REBUILD!!' I know this wasn't the author's choice of word but the tone of the article implies it anyway. Fine tuning yes, but 'rebuild'?? Have we temporarily misplaced our sanity??

Wenger keeps coming out with this mental strength nonsense, I can see no evidence on the pitch to support. We have become a team of show ponies who disappear when the pressure is on. Never thought I would want Wenger out but we cannot continue down this road ,we need winners in the team and Jack Wilshere aside we are lacking

weve never put the right quality players around him (cesc) so i am sure he is fed up and i am sure he want to go anyway. he wanted to go in the summer remember ? he was happiest when Flamini was covering his back but we sold him because he wanted to too much money and the money we saved there we gave to Rosicky, Denilson, Diaby... BEAM ME UP SCOTTY

Wenger will not change his philosophy so he has to go.Why do some fans stick up for him? What has happened this season has happened for the last 4 seasons. He gets £6m a year for finishing top 4 and that is nothing short of criminal.Come the end of every season we are relying on the usual suspects. And it was probably apt that even though we got battered by Barca we could have got through that the chance fell to the Clown Prince of Denmark.Who need i remind you earn 50 grand a week!!!

Any idea of who the loan goalie is going to be? Jens has been mentioned and I have even heard David James being talked about.

Wenger won't change though, the amount of times in the last two weeks he has said "mentally strong." is nothing short of annoying, it's like he is trying to close his eyes while repeating this and when he opens them reality will have changed. He has nothing he can do because he won't see what we all see.

Cesc leaving will only be a blessing if we sign a Xavi or Iniesta!!!.Because make no mistake he is our only player who can be called world class. And we all know if we got £40m for him Wenger would spend a fraction of it.The main thing that needs to be done this summer is to have a clearout of the overpaid shit at the club.Denilson Squillaci Diaby Eboue Vela and Bendtner dont deserve to be at the club. But once again we know Wenger wont get rid of his love children.Cesc will go but we will be left with a weaker team.So it going to be worse than now

I'm not sure Fabregas is captain material but he's one of the best players in the world and I don't think selling him is a good idea. As a general response - can we not have this discussion at the end of the season? There are a lot articles flying about which appear to have all but ruled the season as over. Wenger out, sell Bentdner etc etc. We're still fighting for the title. It's like we're writing the epitaph for someone with a heavy cold.

If every fan can see what happens every year we oh why can,t wenger... some of the players have not been good enough for years Eboube, Dennilson ,Almunia to name but three. But we do not replace them we only give them longer contracts while sending out our developing players on loan to leave us short at the end of the season when as in every year for the past five the injures hit,
