Arsenal Women are U21 League champions
Arsenal Women U21s have sealed the PGA Under 21 League title despite losing 1-0 away to Charlton Athletic.
Manchester United’s 3-3 draw with Chelsea ended the Red Devils’ hopes of the title, with first-teamers Naomi Girma, Guro Reiten and Maelys Mpome all featuring for the Blues in the first half. United won 4-2 on penalties for a bonus point.
Arsenal are an insurmountable four points clear of United with one game remaining, and will lift silverware at home next week after their final game of the season against Durham.
The Gunners clinched the PGA League Under 21 South title in October, before resuming their campaign in the national Division One.
A successful season for the Young Gunners
Arsenal kicked off their Division One campaign with a 4-2 penalty shootout win over Southampton following a 2-2 draw, with Milly Boughton and Lucy Lyon scoring. Kathrine Kuhl, now of AS Roma, and Katie Reid both featured.
A 2-1 win over rivals Chelsea followed, in which summer signing Sophie Harwood made her debut, before a 5-2 defeat away to Manchester United.
Ruby Seaby, who joined Ipswich Town in March, and Boughton scored in a 2-0 win over Aston Villa before the Gunners won 1-0 away to Durham thanks to Niamh Peacock’s strike.
The Gunners ended January by beating Charlton Athletic 2-1 at home, with Bryony Brodie setting up goals for both Lucy Lyon and former Tottenham Hotspur youngster Boughton.
Boughton scored a brace with Seaby also on the scoresheet as Arsenal won 3-2 at Sunderland, before the Gunners beat title rivals Manchester United 3-1. First-teamers Victoria Pelova and Amanda Ilestedt, returning from an ACL and maternity leave respectively, both found the net.
Isabella Fisher and Peacock were on target in a 2-0 win over Southampton in which Pelova and Rosa Kafaji both featured, including Sweden international Kafaji setting up Fisher’s goal.
Arsenal then beat a Chelsea side including first-teamers Mia Fishel and Lola Brown 1-0 at Cobham to take another step closer to the title, with Jessie Gale scoring the crucial goal.
The Gunners lost 3-2 away to Aston Villa, with a late goal from the home side leaving Arsenal empty-handed despite goals from Fisher and Kyri Teer-Hutchins.
Gabby Dimmock then scored the only goal to beat Sunderland 1-0, leaving Arsenal needing just one point from their final two games.
Last season, Arsenal won the Southern League but lost to Manchester United in the national final.
