After Arsenal had played a sublime game of football (finishing excepted) in accounting for Mr Araldyte’s ‘Rollerball’ outfit at the Reebok, we then had ‘Barrow Boy’ Terry Venables announcing that England’s problems are all down to Arsene Wenger, it his fault that England’s football team are crap!

Venables’ argument? “There are a lot of players coming from around the world which makes it difficult for local boys. When I was playing it was just Great Britain that clubs picked from. You had to be the best in Great Britain which wasn`t easy. But today you`ve got to be the best in the world. If you want to be the best that is what you have to be. Nevertheless it does have some restrictions that make it very difficult for more young players to progress. Arsenal have a fantastic [academy] system but a lot of them are from abroad. That is okay but it does make it difficult for home-grown players to get through.”

Venables always blames someone else, it was Sugar’s fault at Tottenham, the FA’s fault when he lost his job and now he decides that one of the greatest coaches in the world has ruined England’s chances of winning anything.

The truth of course is England are crap because our coaches are crap and for the last 40 years under 13 and under 14s have been coached by so-called well meaning parents who only wanted to win matches instead of giving correct coaching.

In many countries you cannot coach kids unless you are qualified but what use is being qualified when much of our coaching was based on Charles Hughes’ long ball game which together with Graham Taylor is probably the biggest cause of the decline in the English game. Anyone watching Arsenal’s pass and move against Bolton would have said we must get our national side playing this way and when Arsene is too old to withstand the rigours of running Arsenal he could lay down a ten year blueprint to change the way football is coached and played in the UK, this is probably what has narked Venables because he realises that he could never get any of his teams to play like Arsenal and that the old hacks of Fleet Street (Jeff Powell - you know who you are) have finally seen through him.

Venables’ silence over England’s performances under his so-called brilliant coaching is due because he has been found out so he is trying one more con trick in blaming Wenger. I hope all Gooners will let this wide boy know what we really think of him and for a start I hope the club will never let him summarize at our new stadium because we do not need any more sessions of his ‘hail fellow well met’ routine and that f**king idiotic put on laugh, the man is finished.
