Frustrations with Arsenal’s summer

Three Months of Procrastination

Cesc: The inevitable now a reality

Well here we are ladies and gentleman just a few hours away from the start of the new Premier League season. How are we all feeling about our team’s chances for the upcoming campaign? Pretty grim I would imagine the overall answer to be.

If the current rumours are to be believed then by the time we kick off against Newcastle on Saturday afternoon we will have lost our current captain and second highest goal scorer from last season for total transfer fees ranging from £50-60m. Now this is all well and good as these two players have clearly wanted to leave for some time now so we are better off selling them on for good money and re-investing that money in fresh blood for the upcoming season. I have no qualms about either player wanting to leave or the fact that they are finally being allowed to leave for decent transfer fees recouped.

What I do have a problem with is why it has taken three months of inactivity in the transfer market for us to finally allow them to leave hours before the season kicks off for real. Why wasn’t all this sorted out months ago just as last season ended? We are now left in the ridiculous situation where we are short of quality players for the most important games of our new season (Udinese, Liverpool and Man Utd)

Is this not completely amateurish from the top people at the club? Why did AW come out all those weeks ago and speak about ‘not allowing both players to leave as it makes it hard to convince people that you are still a big club’? Why did he say he would ‘rather lose the £20m transfer fee next year than let Samir leave to join up with another top English team’ when it now appears the opposite to be true? Why wrangle with Barcelona for what feels like centuries over the transfer fee for Cesc when in the end the fee payable seems pretty similar to what was offered to us last summer?

The positive stance would have been to have sold both players earlier on in the summer as soon as it became apparent that both men wanted out and for us to have already bedded in the replacements during pre-season. We now are left in the position of scrambling around for adequate replacements and will be held to ransom to pay whatever the likes of Valencia want us to pay for players like Mata etc.

Apparently a top source from the club has stated today that the whole fee recouped on Cesc will be re-invested in buying in new players. What they failed to stipulate was over how long a period of time this will happen in. Three weeks? Six months? Ten years? Will the revenue from the Samir sale also be used or will it sit in the bank account along with the Toure and Adebayor money we received from City a couple of summers ago? So far this summer we have spent around £10m on Gervinho and I would estimate a maximum of £8m upfront for Chamberlain. The £15m fee reported in the media will surely have been made up of various add-ons that may well never materialise so let’s be fair and call it £20m in total so far including Jenkinson. We have recouped a minimum of £7m from the sale of our number one left back Gael Clichy and a reported £1.5m from the sale of the young and talented JET to Ipswich. So far then a net outlay of around £11.5m has been spent this summer.

If we then bring in £55m from the sales of Cesc and Samir as anticipated that then leaves us a war chest of a minimum of £43.5m. You then need to add on any other sales as it looks likely that NB52 will be offloaded to anyone that wants him and none other than Emmanuel Eboue also looks likely to be saying adios anytime we can find a willing buyer. Can anyone reading this article really see AW splashing around £50m in the coming fortnight or so?

In reality are we not more than likely to hear comments coming out of AW’s mouth in the near future like ‘if we bought in a replacement for Cesc it would in effect be killing the likes of Aaron Ramsey and Emmanuel Frimpong’? Which does beg the question - is Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain the perceived replacement for Samir Nasri? Why buy in the new Theo when you are not that bothered about keeping the original. It is a bit like buying a replica of a painting when you are not sure about even liking the original. Is the current first team squad photograph not starting to slowly resemble a class room picture for a second year Montessori nursery school class?

Also why do we take 10 weeks of the summer to then go in with an even lower offer than last summer for Jagielka of Everton? Does it really take people at our club 10 weeks to manage to pick up a telephone or send a simple fax? We have clearly been found wanting time and time again for muscle and for players that have that much needed been there and done it all before winning mentality. What do we come up with in response to this situation as a club? We get Jenkinson, Chamberlain and Mr Miyaichi from The Karate Kid with a combined age of 23 months between them and zero trophies. Can any of the senior players at our club take things seriously anymore with this type of signing becoming the norm over recent seasons?

I watched the game on TV the other week against Thierry Henry’s New York Red Bulls and I must say I was bored to death throughout the entire game. In my opinion we were dire. The result against Benfica leaves me with no doubt that we will struggle grimly to get past Udinese over two legs regardless of the fact that they have lost some of their top players this summer. In my own opinion Newcastle are now a pretty poor Premier League side but we will do well to come away with a point and the games against Liverpool and Man Utd simply do not look overly winnable to me right now. This is not being negative it is simply an honest appraisal from a loyal fan who knows a things or two about the game after supporting his side loyally since the age of six.

My father has supported The Arsenal all of his life and he is now 64 years old. He said to me the other day that he has never felt so negative about a new season starting as he does right now. This feeling seems to be a widespread one as tickets for the early games of the season have not sold well at all in comparison to previous seasons. The Liverpool game which is a category A encounter went to red members and took days to sell out after the red members got the chance to buy seats. The Udinese match is already on general sale as not enough red members took up the option to go to this now vital game. How long will the Swansea game take to sell out as I can see this and many other EPL games going on general sale this season.

The question then needs to be asked if many games continue to hit general sale status as predicted why bother as fans forking out the vastly inflated membership prices that the club has made us pay this season? The amount of Liverpool tickets that have now gone back on sale via the ticket exchange also makes you think that a number of people must have season tickets these days that simply do not feel the need to currently attend any of the games. Is the general feeling amongst season ticket holders one of let’s keep the season ticket going as to not worry further down the line about the availability of one and simply sell on our seat every game at a small loss and hope that over the next few seasons things get more interesting again and you then feel the desire to attend on a more regular basis?

The answer to all this for me is a clear one. AW needs to get his moth riddled cheque book out and this time don’t sign the cheques just to bring in yet another unproven 17 year old winger. Sign the cheques now for a tall domineering centre half and worthy replacements for the departing Cesc and Samir. I feel strongly that AW also has to take full responsibility for the reasons why Cesc and Samir have been so desperate to leave in recent times. Learn your lessons Arsene and move with the times otherwise just simply move on out of the door of the club.

GoonerRon - Wenger wants 60,000 of you. Incredible that you obviously have the ability to type and think, yet you still swallow the corporate bull****. They are taking us all for a ride. Wake up.

@don the gooner, they should take that red band down...none of the trophies have been won at that stadium. All it does at the moment is mock the current squad, not inspire them.

We are the most cash rich side in the country and our owners are both multi-billionaires. Yet we insist on acting like a regional mid table club scraping around for cheap deals while selling some of the few established players we have. As football is now the only way for us to compete is either to use every penny of the clicy, fabregas and nasri cash on 3 top players to refresh the squad. Fans have no issue with selling but have seen our best players sold and funds trousered for to long, while admission prices rise. Either that or as usmanov suggests let him and silent stan dip in. Liverpools owners have done the same in an attempt to bridge the gap with manure. Arsenal have since the early 80s ran a financially tight ship but at present profit is king and sporting ambition a distant 2nd. Whilst I lay some blame at wengers door as he has refused to move with the times the supine leadership of our board in refusing to make him and sun lounger rice accountable and kept on their toes is the main problem. At one stage when Pat had not moved for an hour I wondered if he was awake. The same board must now ensure that the investment required is made as cesc, samir, barry bentdner and all leave. Either that or reduce prices and admit what we all fear that despite all the rhetoric since the decision to leave Highbury the ambition is profit and 4th place.

The Stoat hit the nail right on the head. Wenger will never get sacked 'cos he makes money for the board, not you or me the LOYAL Arsenal fans. Paul Merson on soccer saturday got it spot on when he said "The red band around the inside of the ground shows when we won our trophies/titles but in a couple of years it will say "we made 30 million this year"." Enough said.

To Dan, Vin, Ron et al who slag off those pointing out concerns with the team, club, structure etc what exactly did you see this morning (I am an ex-pat and get up at 4am to worship)? A midfield that had absolutely no penetration?, one half forward in RVP who failed to shoot in the one clear chance we created in 90 mins? No doubt nerves will be calmed when we rejoice in the clean sheet kept against the scintillating talents of Best, Lovenkrands and Ameobi (no new defenders needed then!) If you want a new car, you dont sell your current model, and then walk to work for the next 2 months as you scour the bargain bucket looking for a last minute replacement! if you were sensible, you line up your new car then sell your old one in time to work on it and solve any teething problems. Today was mediocre at best, much like the incoming signings and less like the players on the way out! Poor - Very poor.

@GoonerRon- regarding all those players you have mentioned..why did they choose other clubs? If Arsenal is this big club then WHY are these player refusing to sign with us?? as for me i am sick and tired of AW..preseason showed that if any of our first choice CBs get injured we are screwed because no one is good enough to step in..Personally wouldn't mind to see Alex from chelsea holding our backs. and AW NEEDS to make sure that SONG plays his role - defensive mid- not mucking about trying to be our pass maestro.. you can not do all those fancy through balls you have been attempting..Just for once do what it says on the tin..DEFEND !!

The reason the Fabregas situation is still not resolved is simple,Barcelona. Do you really expect Arsene and Arsenal to just bend over and get shafted.Barcelona want him,but they dont want to pay.It could have been sorted months ago, but as a club they are without any class. They could afford to wait because Cesc is not even in contenion for a starting place.Even now, some 24 hours after the Spanish press had announced that prisoner number 4 had been freed from his slavery they are still haggling. Unfortunatly they are a great football team, but a shoddily run, financially and morally bankrupt outfit.

This summer has proven that the hierarchy are incompetent in running a FOOTBALL club, there have allowed the situation of Cesc(who we expected to leave)and Nasri(who we hoped would resign)to string on for 3months and now we about to see them both sold by Monday and no like for like players being brought to replace them.Again we have the pleasure of Wengers idiotic quotes reference buying players and one good one was when we linked to Mertesacker,a 26 yr old highly experienced international C/B in the last year of his contract, was dismissed adding that we have 4 C/B's already...BUT we inquiring about Dann at Birmingham who will probably cost more and lesser experienced from a relegated team. It's the same old summer with more youngsters brought for ''the future''and a ligue 1 player who only had 1 good season there while our rivals have again spent to strengthen because we don't attract the top quality players anymore and because of Wengers refusal to recognise our weaknesses and address them we won't until he leaves and a realistic manager takes over.Unless Wenger dramatically pulls 3 quality players, which the minimum we need, out of the hat by the 31st our top 4 finish will be over and then we probably see the board act as it would affect the share price and attendances drop but i very much doubt we see the signings as it would ''kill our youth players'' or diminish there selling price....You don't win trophys with memories or what has been it happens with investment and quality look at Manure(don't bother saying there in more debt than us as that record worn out)

dan you are a knob and not one you use for a door.the reason we leave it so late in the transfer market is so arsen can play he usual card by saying it is to late to bring any new faces in and our bank balance gets bigger.well done arsen the board loves you.

To PPP, Dan and others we will support the team through thick and thin, however most of the real fans will be looking for change from the board down to the tired old man presently running the team and his bench warmer of an assistent. Like others it's galling to compare the ineptitude of our team with the pride and clinical professionalism shown by United in the Community Sheild. As mentioned the thought of Rosickey starting a game ( too slow, too fat, uncompetitive ) is worrying as it suggests a team of bits and pieces without leadership or character. It epitomises everything that has gone wrong. The future will be exciting and the real fans accept the fact that change is inevitable however difficult it may initially seem.

The man has lost the plot, big time. We are in for a long and raveged season fellow Gooners. As for you Claude, who do you think you are as well. Support the Club? Well surely an act of support is pointing out where things are going wrong, and not just brushing the clear problems under the carpet. Arsene Wenger has bought three youngsters and promoted one into the first team when we badly need experience as if to perpetuate the ready made excuse that we are a young team. Our form at the back of last season has continued into pre-season, when we get a lead it seems painfully clear that it's only 50/50 at best as to whether we will maintain it, Benfica ran rings around us last saturday and there were more first-team players in that side that most people would care to imagine.

AW also said yesterday that we will not be signing Mata from Valencia, when asked why that was he comeback with 'I do not have to give any reason'. Kind of says all you need to know about the guys mental state. In my eyes it is merely becoming a 'mata' of time before AW has to be asked to leave. My guess is at the end of the season he leaves by 'mutual consent' simply out of respect for what he done in his early years at the club and ends up at PSG.

The season hasn't started and the transfer window is open until the end of August. Buying players isn't like nipping out to Tesco's for a loaf of bread and some milk. As has been the case all summer I'll be keep my moaning in check until we are dealing facts and not just guessing at what is going on and why. Wenger was clearly pissed off at today's press conference, which could be summarised as 'until they leave they are still Arsenal players' and 'no deal is done yet' and 'I'm pissed off with this'. I suspect that Gazidis isn't doing the business with negotiations for either new players or to keep the current ones.

A big club protects players who 'service' the club. Contracts can be flexible due to the willingness of the club to use the 'heritage' the player has developed whilst performing in the shirt. The downfall of Wenger has been his inability to be flexible when dealing with senior players-their obvious love for the club..Pires springs to mind and his disdain for that service..buying young and cheap. The speed of which he dismantled the 'Invincibles' smacked of him wanting it to be all about him..the way he dismissed Keown as Defensive coach smacked of it all being about him..he has to be the hero in this..not battle proven players...do you think there will ever be a 'testimonial' match for another player while Wenger is in charge..Walcott at 36 anyone? This is a major reason players look elsewhere..Wenger has no loyalty..sell at 30..everyone knows that..it ain't rocket science...no player heritage..no loyalty..souless AND Cheap feeder club mentality. Big club my Arse-nal!

Like Goonerron I am looking forward to the new season because I am an Arsenal supporter and love watching them. Having stood on the North Bank for years it's great to be a Season Ticket holder and I've no regrets on having paid for the privilege. But winning anything this season? I know I can't believe it myself but, mind over heart, I've just put £2 - half a pint of warm E******* lager - on Arsenal to be relegated - with William Hill at 500-1. Perish the thought that it happens 1 season short of our top division centenary but the true odds are so much lower following the pre-season transfer inactivity. What on earth is happening to this club?

I can't wait for the season to start tomorrow. It's going to be brilliant to see the Wenger's diaper boys led by the lively experienced and hard working players such as Rosicky and Arsharvin as we go 4 up in the first half. Oh, wait a minute, deja vu and that lovely man and philosopher Mr Barton, (who really should join Mr Wenger and his team, represent his ideals on the pitch and Captain the side) has a cathartic moment and buggers us again in the second half! I cannot wait to see who he tries to scythe down and put out for a few months - a true artist. I love this Prozac stuff. Next month I'm off to watch players that we are thinking of signing but still not quite sure about. Pat Rice is coming with me because he has nothing else to do and it's a Project we can stretch out until January when Arsene said we could go on holiday until the end of May. apparently, the players we have will be destressing and winding down over that period so, again, not much for Pat to do. He said he likes the Prozac too - it makes a top six place look exciting and a great achievement. In fact, Happy Days!!

AJ. Who do you think that we should try and get sectioned under the Mental Health Act? Is it the AKB's for paranoid delusion, or the Manager himself for monomania? "monomania (from Greek monos, one, and mania, mania) is a single pathological preoccupation in an otherwise sound mind.Intellectual monomania is that which is related to only one kind of delirious idea or ideas" The press, if the papers this week and Talkmanc this morning are anything to go by, is calling the manager and the club a shambles. Within 48 hours it is my hope that either Fabregas or Nasri will, having escaped, break their silence on the monumental mess at the club. I fear however that much of the delay in both deals will have been the manager insisting on confidentiality clauses with substantial penalty provisions if either of them talk. The AKB's have become progressively more rude as they have been shown as being progressively more wrong. It is all falling apart and the earlier the manager is dismissed the better a fist of the new season a new manager can make. Supporting this manager is fundamentally against the interests of Arsenal Football Club or its supporters.

No single individual is bigger than the club. The Board would do well to remember that when unconditionally backing Arsene Wenger. And when looking in the mirror. Selling 2 of our best players within 24 hours of the season starting is gross negligence. Both had made known their desire to leave ages ago. Plus the club missed Mata's 31 July deadline 'in case Cesc or Nasri stayed'. He will now probably be unavailable. In any other major business, all this would lead to a vote of no confidence in both the board and the CEO ie Arsene. Load of rubbish that he's irreplaceable now - but if allowed to continue for another few seasons, the rebuilding will be much more difficult and if not in the CL it will be hard if not impossible to attract a great manager and new players. Capt Arsene will go down with his ship.

I think he sees chamberlain being some sort of Cesc type playing down the middle as he keeps harping on about his great vision and passes. Gervinho will be the replacement on the wing for Nasri. With Walcott maintaining his RW spot and VP up front. The lack of midfield talent we have is scary as Wilshere is currently injured and Song for me is not top quality. In fact by all accounts his Ego has inflated Adebayor style. I like Ramsey and think he has got the tools and attitude to carry the can this season. Just get jacky boy back and fit and I think we could have a great partnership there. Just need song to ****ing sit in and not rampage forward like a headless goose. The defence frightens me to death. Vermaelen is good, but ships a goal per game. He needs a solid partner in there. I'd love AW to spend all availabale cash on Cahill AND samba moving Vermaelen to LB and Gibbs as replacement. then any injuries to Cahill/samba means Vermaelen slides over, gibbs comes in. This way hopefully we hardly see the disaster zones of kossy, djourour and that hapless prick squillaci We will finish 8th this season if he doesnt strengthen

Another thought ahead of the game tomorrow... With Cesc and Samir nowhere to be seen and with Jack out injured one would expect our midfield trio to be Song, Ramsey and none other than Superman himself Tomas Rosicky. I for one can't believe we are faced with the sight of this useless tw*t pulling on the red and white shirt for yet another season. If all you do is accept seeing this level of player continue to play for us on a regular basis then how the hell can you expect to end the season anything other than trophyless? The standard accepted in terms of quality of players these days at the club we support is laughable at times.

Personally.I had an idea that arsenal would sign somebody unproven and another batch of 16 year olds.think about it.when has anyother summer been different.people thought AW would act differently this summer but are you really that surprised with the inactivity thus far?I am not.think about it.how many players targeted by wenger actually sign for arsenal?an extremely low percentage.also normally when a club is takenover by somebody, tranfers are quickly followed as a statemane of intent.again, thus far nothing at arsenal.I am very sad because arsenal are in decline due to the fact there seems to be an all too familiar culture of sellin international seniors and replacing them with teenagers.if AW has so far refused to identify the problem and solution for this long now,I really doubt he ever will

Dan - you have no stomach for the truth. 'I expect no one to leave': Wenger is insulting your intelligence with his choice of words here, and your idea of 'fight' is to placidly accept this. What fans need to fight for is change from those currently running our club, who are driving it into mediocrity.

You ask--- "why it has taken three months of inactivity in the transfer market for us to finally allow them to leave hours before the season kicks off for real. Why wasn’t all this sorted out months ago just as last season ended?". If it has been sorted out months ago, he'd have gone for £26 million, about 10 less. And I don't know about inactivity. Arsenal has brought in 4 players (Ryo, gerv, Jenk and Ox), stand to bring in 2 more (Joel campbell and a CD), had two failed negotiations (Phil Jones and Ricky Alvarez), been negotiating for Jagielka, been negotiating 4 departures (B52, Eboue, Deni and Almunia), and trying to prevent 2 others through long, ongoing negotiation (Cesc and Nasri). That does not sound like "3 months of inactivity". In fact, it's a downright silly comment. Does anyone think that AW did not want all the nonsense done and dusted by now? There are some things he could not control, such as Nasri's determination to double his money. Awful analysis.

I am afraid this is all spot on. If it is true that we may be replacing Cesc, one of the best midfielders in the world, with a 27 year old Brazilian with 4 caps, who plays in the Ukraine, and who is not a dead cert to even get a work permit, then things will have reached a sorry stage. Cesc must be replaced with established world class quality or we are taking an unnecessary backwards step again.

    Aug 12, 2011, 13:10 #11097

The really sad thing is that all this was so predictable back in May that it is really not funny. Cesc was always going to be sold within a few days of being CL cup-tied. The only prophecy left to be fulfilled is, as you point out, the statements about "killing" youth players and players returning being "like new signings". We will see a panic Squillaci/Silvestre type buy in the final week of the window, as no player of any quality is going to be attracted to a club who have just sold their captain and 2nd highest goal-scorer (and arguably two best on-paper players) and have yet to actually get into the CL proper. The likes of Mata are pipe-dreams until (if) we get past Udinese (which I'm not at all convinced about!). It's no surprise that Scott Dann is being touted as the most likely CB signing, as he fits the AW model perfectly - short, and cheap. I read yesterday that Rice went to watch him in a behind-closed-doors friendly and was "impressed", but that AW is "not sure" about him. FFS! Do we or do we not need an established, experienced CB? Last week we were promised "good news" by then end of this week. Well, I suppose the fact that this debacle of a drama looks like completing should be counted as a blessing. Saturday evening at Newcastle? 1-0 to the home team, 85th minute set piece. We're bound to be "a little bit short after Benfica", but "we will learn from this".

AFC sell their first choice left back to a rival club, then spends 12mil of that on a teenage winger. Today Liverpool sign Jose Enrique from Newcastle, a Premiership and possibly European standard left back for 6mil. Says it all.

The rumours that people 13,000+ on the waiting list were offered a season ticket tells you something. The fact that many games will go to general sale will cause a minor stirring higher up but a big club in london will always attract the 'tourist fan' in town for a week so most tickets will probably still sell. What would worry them is the corporate boxes & prawn sandwich brigade not going & i wouldn't have a clue or care how well they have sold.Jesus it is such a different game to when i first went in 83 as a youngster on the north bank.I have been a silver member for many years only now go a few times a season family, work, cost, etc has stopped me going more.I will still go when i can to meet up with old gooner mates but it seems the club has just lost total direction on the field & off it.

Why do people keep saying we've been 'inactive' with transfers this summer? It's utter crap. We've completed deals for Gervinho, Oxlade-Chamberlain, and Jenkinson. We've had deals on the table for Alvarez and Phil Jones but they chose to go elsewhere. Seemingly we've been negotiating with Barca about Cesc and Citeh about Nasri, not forgetting the sale of Clichy and loans of Bartley and Denilson. We've been getting a work permit for Myaichi and renewing Bartley's contract. We've obviously agreed sale terms with Bendtner, Almunia and Eboue - all of whom have been given permission to speak to other clubs. On top of this the reported negotiation with Everton for Jags and Shakhtar for Jadson. This doesn't include negotiations we may have been in that haven't been reported in the media. OK, so we may not have bought all the players in all the positions YET, but there is still time. I am really looking forward to the new season because I love nothing more than going to watch the team I support, no matter what.

The protracted sales of Fabregas and Nasri - who were always going to leave this Summer (regardless of what spin AW & the Board put on it)whilst allowing those players we so desperately need to go to other clubs OR simply not be signed because the club are too tight, slow and uninterested is nothing short of a Gross Negligence...Wenger KNEW this Summer's transfer window was the last chance saloon for him to prove he was still capable of managing a club the size of Arsenal and get the fans back on board - But it would appear (unless HUGE changes occur within the next 2 weeks) he has blown it. Be prepared for trouble at the games between all the blind faith AKB's and those Gooners who have minds of their own and are not willing to swallow any more of the shyte and lies and will be voicing their feelings very loudly. SPEND SOME ****IN' MONEY 6% YOU'RE AVIN' A LARF (but no one IS Laughing) WHERE'S OUR CAPTAIN????? WENGER OUT! WENGER OUT! WENGER OUT!

You know it, I know it, we all know it but the chances are Wenger doesn't!!! He is still away with the fairies in cloud cuckoo land, where everybody just stands back and admires our wonderful football and simply lets us win because of our artistic talent. Back in the real world where we all reside, we are in an utter shambolic mess all of Wenger and Gazidis's own making. I don't think Wenger will do what we all want him to do because he refuses to see his project for what it is, and hence it's more likely any additions will be A-young B-an attacking winger C-a midget D-no previous PL experience E-cheap F-another bottler when things get tough G-French or French speaking H-shot shy I-will leave for a more ambitious club if he makes the grade J- will stay if he does not make the grade, because we will pay him more than anywhere else on the planet. You get the jist, as we have all seen it all before many times over. Wenger won't change because he can't it's like telling an alcoholic to stop drinking it simply won't happen. Our only way to get change, is change it self!!

All very true. However how much do you want to bet that someone will call you a Racist because of the referrence to Ryo whatsisface as the one from Karate Kid, just to deflect the truth in this article? The apologists are desperate to tell the world that everything is ok at Arsenal and that the man has not lost the plot. This club, our club has become a joke. What really breaks my heart is that the sporting while elephant will always be filled with plums. The ones giving away tickets from their ST's this season (the vast majority of JCL's and ones with no passion for the club whatsoever) will keep their ST's hoping to return to the stands when we start doing something on the pitch again. The board have turned our club inside out and Wenger is quite simply a man lost. His pet project gone. What a shame it's all ending in tears right before our eyes.

I have got to say my initial feelings are not good. The situation with regard to fabregas was always going to be difficult. You cant have an auction if there is only one bidder and the price has taken a long time to agree. Mistakes have been and making ridiculously bids for players does not help. That said the season need not be as bad as some will predict. If they strengthen the defence and get a creative player in then they should do well.
