Return of injured players would improve things

Something Is Missing And It’s Called Heart

Jenkinson: Out of his depth

I don’t care If you’re an AKB, an AMG, or somewhere in between. We all must agree: this team just can’t get the job done, again and again. Not against the better teams. And we barely beat the weaker sides. Has the balance of power shifted in North London? I used to think ‘no way, never, would Arsenal be second-best to the Spuds’. But, you can’t argue with the last four results. Three losses, one tie. Unimaginable, even a few years ago. This team has really hit new lows. I try hard to be somewhat positive toward the team, and I will have some good things to say about today’s game, yet – mostly - the state of the club is a shambles right now. I have been saying all year that this season and the team should be judged by the results up to and including the derby today. It is now time.

From the beginning, nothing really clicked and no players showed the heart to make a difference. I am tired of hearing about confidence, and that this team is still a good team. You have to walk the walk if you talk the talk. Both Tottenham goals were from bad defending. Sagna of all people left Van Der Vaart to score, reacting too slowly (definite handball by the way!) and Szczesny made a bad error on Walker’s shot, reminding me of Almunia. The Pole had a great game again, other than the second goal. His point blank save vs. Adebayor showed his consistent class. Yet our lack of defensive effort and of the heart to make a difference, individually and collectively, really is what we should all be upset about as fans. Van Persie is no captain. Neither was Fabregas. Both are great, talented players, but not the type to motivate or stir the spirit to immense effort. No-one on this team has that. Ramsey, the current fill-in for Fabregas with Wilshere out, is simply not good enough. One good Spurs chance came as a result of his failure to track back and stay with his man. Many fans, myself included, wanted him to do well after he broke into the first team before his injury and then after his recovery. Yet his decision-making is slow, he takes too many touches to make a pass, and he lacks creativity. He scored a goal, yes. But his role is to create them. Had Van Der Vaart made any effort to track his man back, there probably would have been no cross coming through for Ramsey’s goal.

Our makeshift defense either miscommunicated or lacked communication the entire game. Set pieces are still a worry. Gibbs did have a better game than usual, but his side was not the one with Gareth Bale. Jenkinson, when he came on, looked like a schoolboy among men. Too slow to keep up with Bale, he was left wanting. Walcott again made no difference and was lost in the shadows. But, is it all his fault? I think not. The man on the ball the most in midfield, Ramsey, does not have the ability or vision to be effective for our upfront or wide men and gives the ball away too often. Coquelin had a great first half, playing like a veteran holding-midfielder and Arteta wasn’t too bad. Yet, the offensive spark is gone. Gervinho missed a golden chance, but we keep seeing the same thing. We do very little in the final third. Missed chances and we lose. Boy, is it depressing. I still find myself watching and looking forward to games, but I don’t really expect us to win anymore. Not against anybody good. At the end, I was hoping we would scrape a draw. Then, I thought about that. Hoping for a draw, against the Spuds. That says it all.

So, where do we go from here? As a fan, I must stay loyal and hope things change. I can’t see any major ones this season, even with January signings. Will Wenger bring in anyone of note? Probably not. He is sitting on millions, yet can’t seem to get it right. His constant bulls**t in press conferences and on the official site is now making me laugh. How can you say your vision is to be the best club in the world after having recently sold your best two players and not replacing them and others? We’re not even close to the best in England. He brought in only stop-gap signings (save Arteta) and we have been beaten by our rivals again and again. That 8-2 score against United sent the message. Today’s result is another loud warning bell. But Wenger really doesn’t get it. Not yet. It’s hard to see that he ever will.

We desperately need our two players with the most heart back: Verm and Jack. Their effort and aggressive natures are sorely missed. From what Gadzidis and Kroenke have said, Wenger will be in charge for seasons to come. Is that really possible? Shouldn’t he be judged on his failures as well as his successes? A great indicator of leadership is admitting your failures and getting help when and where you need it. Great leaders surround themselves with great men, who both push and support them. A sign of failure is saying nothing is wrong and that all is well when Rome burns. These leaders hide what is really happening behind the scenes and don’t change. They don’t see the bright, glowing neon writing on the wall. For us fans, it is unmistakable. Some fans have said we are fighting for our survival. I am starting to agree. And the flames are growing. To rebuild with something worthwhile left, Wenger must put them out soon.

I really get sick of these "fans" who will back Wenger no matter what even if it is to the detriment of Arsenal. And then these "fans" question other people and their loyalty to the club, it's utter rubbish. Asking questions of your manager and whether or not he is the right person to take the club forward doesn't make you some sort of traitor. It's the same stupid mentality that you get in certain areas of London when grassing is seen as a mortal sin, rather then standing up for truth and whats right. The point about being a supporter is to be able to look at the team rationally and being able to speak your mind on whether or not you believe it is being run properly. In football there is this attitude that you can't say anything bad about your club, and if you do you should go and support them down at S**t Hart Lane, it's such playground nonsense. Clealry the Board and the manager are not doing a good job by the fans, who pay the most money for season tickets in the league. We deserve better than to be losing 8-2 to man utd, getting beaten by blackburn and worst of all in some ways, getting beaten by our most hated of rivals. And it's not as if this a new thing, we've been losing the big games for years, and now we're even struggling to win against the poor teams.

Mike - you will see I introduced Moyes to the equation in retort to Mandy Dodd the reason being that any suggestion of a manager that has spent money is shooed away as she refuses to accept that Wenger has ever had any money at his disposal. Therefore by introducing Moyes she would at least enter the debate. Personally I believe OGL has decided not to spend to retain his get out of jail free card. Moyes would do a better job than wenger currently is based on the same net spend. I do not suggest Moyes for new manager if funds are at the managers disposal.

again the focus seems to be on individual players, the glaring fact is that Arsenal's problem is cultural, we are doing what declining teams invariably do - thrash around changing players - when the problem isn't with the players, a fact is if you put any of our players in the Man u squad they would defend properly and fight, because that is Man Us culture, you will see that the recent players brought in will make the same mistakes as the ones going out.

People are seriously putting O'Neil and Moyes forward as possible replacements for Wenger? I must be going mad..... no I read it again to make sure. I have a great deal of respect for Wenger but agree that maybe his time is up. Injuries have not helped his cause though, but to hear the likes of O'Neil and Moyes as nominations as a successor..are you guys serious???? Ancelloti has been banded around, even Hiddink. Those I can understand.

old timer, kevin, will. mandy et al. o 'neill is a decent manger, however hes hardly been suggested by anyone, as you well know, and yet you just jump on this as an excuse for AW. no one mentions alternatives do they? well ancellotti, capello, van basten, hiddink, favre, hitzfeld, rehgal, low, moyes, klopp, etc etc. what would be wrong with ancellotti for example??? old timer, either you are senile, or some tarquin with only a passing interest. the club is fast going backwards, can you deny that? can you deny we have crappy tactics? can you deny the same problems have been evident for years, yet not addressed? can you deny almunia was first choice for 3 seasons? can you deny we hand out big contracts to avergae and injured players? you cant, and wont, yet AW is responsible for all of this. Get real and show some love for the club as a whole, and take your blinkers off.

Mandy - I see the point you are making that O'Neil's teams are not pretty but at least we would not be such a soft touch with him in charge. I am so exasperated with Wenger that I could take a dose of O'Neil's pragmatism right now.

@Ron - Clogging defenders, box to box midfielders, gorilla striker? Sounds a bit like Chelsea (no racism intended towards Drogba re: gorilla remark). Seems to have worked for them.

I agree with you that we lack heart and determination to win, sadly with RVP as captain we will never have that in a team and in fairness we dont have a leader at the club, the much vaunted TV is a myth, permanantly injured and actually not that good he just looks good next to squillaci but then again so would my nan!.Sadly the W****r with the comedy moustache is in charge and untill his plan to asset strip Arsenal is complete with the sale of RVP and possibly Chesney nothing will change.Ask yourself what was said to Hillwood to change his mind from considering Kronke 'not the sort of chap we want' to 'we welcome him to the board',the promise of incredible returns on his investment thats what!,IMO Hillwood will walk away in two seasons time as well as Kronke who will blame it all on AW and say he was given money but chose not to spend it.Personally i think Arsenal are being run by smoke and mirrors we will never really know the internal relationships untill AW goes and then maybe we'll find out the restraints that were placed on him,i think Dein and Usmanov will eventually take charge but not untill we've been stripped bare of all talent, and it will take some time to cut out the malignant tumor that is Gazidis Kronke and their sycophantic lap dogs

O Neill seems a nice enough bloke but boss of a big Club? No, never in a reign of Sundays. Hes tipped for Blackburn Rovers. He would do well there. Working against the odds. Battling. Making poor players bust a gut to achieve better than they should. Thats O Neill. Nothing wrong with that, but its no recipe for a Club like Arsenal to raise their own bar, not even close. O Neill is very much a 70s type Coach. Defenders who can clog. A couple of midfield workhorses in there. Big gorilla up front. 2 wide men. Wang it out to said wide men. Sling it in to said gorilla and hope for the best. Not for Arsenal ........................ i hope!

When I saw the title of this piece I thougt - "At last - a rallying call to the fans, many of whom have become pathetic, spoilt losers! Some has identified the lack of heart in the fans!" I guess this is what happens after 14 years of varying degrees of success. Where would WHUFC be if their fans were like Arsenal fans have become? Deeply disappointed in the whole wingeing lot of you.

@ Fozzy's Mate - apologies on the name front, nothing intended, not aware of the original Fozzy you mention, just lazy typing! The situation looks bad at the moment but cannot believe the likes of Keown or Dein would allow themselves to be used as a cheer squad, Keown is known for saying things as he sees them? Tony Evans, Martin O Neill has done ok, but he was at a relatively big and well funded club and his achievements in no way matched those of Wenger, despite spending far more than him. He is one of a band of home based managers who have not fully moved on from the dour dinosaur Hughes based philosophy of football, a philospohy that incidently has served England so poorly. Yes, we need a better defence and better organisation at the moment but I also want to see a bit of sexy football, I want a manager who puts a Cesc in midfield, as opposed to Gareth Barry. For a future manager, why not good organisation but expansive football as well? In that case, Martin O Neill will never be the man.

Ronster - completely agree with your comments on Martin O'Neil in response to Mandy Dodd's ignorant assessment of the man. I would welcome someone with O'Neil's experience, passion and realism any day over Wenger, with his deluded comments and the spineless team he has created.

Mandy for the first time (re Moyes) we agree, however I am not fozzy (the original) but his mate created to defend him from those rabid pro Wengerites attacking his every blog. I just feel change is a must as we fester in the abyss and as the sun returns in april I imagine us as a rotting carcass being picked at by vultures. Can you honestly see us winning more than 2 or 3 away from home and 7-10 at home? We all know champs league is a non starter as even if we scrape through the annual money printing procession/group stage any halfway decent side will knock us out. You are what most of us were to OGL - admirably loyal. 5 years of lies, incredible comments, player sales, awful signings and ridiculous bids for top quality have stripped that away, exacerbated by an amazing level of arrogance towards lifelong fans. As for Dein, wilson, Terry Neil etc. They are Wengers cheer squad mobilised on what used to be an end of season basis to deflect critics but now on a weekly basis as we teeter on the edge of a prolonged relegation battle, based on the evidence of the last 18 league games and that 3 of our best players are out long term. Change is a must not an option I am afraid!

No man is an island. Wenger is the manager and must take full responsibility. Yes, the board, if rumors are true, are at fault as well. Yet, he coaches the team, decides lineups and tactics, and plans training. He has skipped or missed out on many talented, tough players who could have possibly taken his 06-11 teams to the winner's podium several times. Instead he opts for players to be developed like Jenkinson and Ox. Sure, they may be good one day, in a few years. But, we need top players with heart and will to win now. You don't have to go the Chelsea or City route to do it either. Just spend a little more, get the right players, and coach them well, defensively especially. Look at no other stat than our wins and losses this season and our place in the table. That says it all. When was the last time we were near 15th at any time during a season? Don't blame injuries, referees, fatigue or anything else, Wenger. Just do your job. How about Guardiola or Ancelloti as replacement? Both could come in and save this sinking ship. Would they be willing? I would even give O'Neill a chance with how things have become. Arsene continues to make comments that border on delusional. It all seems smoke and mirrors this season.

Fozzy, moyes would not be the worst choice, sensible signings and good at developing youngsters, but if he were ever to become our manager, would want to see slightly more attractive football, and how he would do in europe remains to be seen but guess he could be an contender. I do not know how much wenger had to spend this summer, maybe usmanov can get his thirty percent and open up the accounts and end the debate once and for all. Would make interesting reading what ever your stance. I read reports from Valencia sources that we missed out on mata because we needed the cesc money up front to pay, and barca were not playing ball but maybe just another rumour but if true suggests wenger did not have money to play with. If he did have the money and did not spend, he is very silly, very stubborn, the right players were not available to him, the negotiating team messed up or he was concerned the pot was finite. Or maybe stan is telling porkies and they are keeping the powder dry for a new manager, that would please some! I have no idea what goes on but when people who do know, like dein and keown who love the club and know the board and finances, say that we cannot lose wenger, I listen.

Gee is right. In days gone by, Wenger would introduce one, or two youngsters/inexperienced players into the team every so often-Ljungberg,Clichy, Fabregas, RVP, etc. They were surrounded by giants in their team who would nurture them. Now poor Ramsey, Jenkinson, and others are being hung out to dry. Why, because they are frontline, taking the bullets! Ramsey played well for Wales at wembley recently, Where he strung it all together nicely. Wenger is asking an awful lot from some of these players, and they will falter. Which leads me to say finally: WENGER OUT. He is a busted flush, and will oversee our total demise. I shudder at the thought.

Kevin and Mandy....I would love to lock you both in a room with Martin O'Neill...you wouldn't get out alive.A bit of respect is due for a true football British legend.O'Neill was one of Brian Clough's lieutenants at Nottingham Forest who brazenly shocked world football by climbing out of the old Second Division to grab the First Division Title at the first time of asking and then conquering Europe with 2 successive European Cup triumphs.O'Neill captained Northern Ireland to the quarter finals of The World Cup in 1982 dumping the host nation Spain along the way.As a manager he took Wycombe Wanderers into the Football League for the very first time and won a further promotion the following season. At Leicester City, they never finished lower than 9th in the Premier League and reached the League Cup Final 3 times, winning the trophy twice. He took Celtic to the UEFA Cup Final only to be cheated out of the trophy by Mourinho's Porto in extra time.He resigned to nurse his cancer stricken wife back to health then went on to manage Aston Villa where they finished consistently in the top 6. If Arsenal Football Club could appoint a French failure plying his trade in Japan, then Martin O'Neill has served his apprenticeship and deserves a shot at a big club where he would have the resources to step up to the next level.Who took Ashley Young from Watford to Villa and where is Ashley Young now? Weren't Aston Villa the kings of the clean sheets under O'Neill? How about O'Neill coming in as Wenger's number two with a view to eventually taking over!? No chance....Wenger would lock himself in the broom cupboard as soon as he caught sight of the fiery Irishman!

Whilst we all know OGL has never used/spent the resources at his disposal as the club stated pre the sales of Cesc and Nasri that the 40 million fees for Toure and Adebayor still sat untouched, Mandy I will try to give your lover credit. Things must change so if we as I say assume the board are restricting spending and we decide to scrape around continuing with our ridiculous policy with an alleged giant of the world game having a 16 year net spend of 12 million, what about David Moyes. A man who has kept Everton top half having no funds whatsoever and unlike OGL has spent any crumbs he had wisely. If it has been Wengers decision as I believe not to utilise the resources at his disposal I say any halfway reasonable could have done better than him over the last year or so. We are on an inexorable decline and no change is no longer an option if we want to avoid the mid table abyss long term or worse.

Tony Adams Steve bould as our management, great players for us but can you even see them developing a team who can beat barca, come on. If you want wenger out, please contribute to the debate with credible options. Either of those two may make an excellent assistant, bould one day maybe but Adams , though we love him is not arsenal manager material. His management, tactical style would be far too Stuart Pearce, a lot of passion, shouting, maybe a good defence but can you see him bringing on the next cesc? Don't think so somehow

It really pains me to say it but the shelf life of monsieur wenger is long, long gone. Wenger, without question has been a genius at the club, but as time flicks by he is making his self more and more detatched by the man on the street along with the affection that should be, for everything that the man has achieved. I loved the guy when it was all red roses but take alook at the situation we are facing today. Heartless, leaderless, headless amd sometimes talentless (I can name some but prefer not to) This season is hurting me desperately and along with many a gooner, I just do not know where this is going to take me and how much more can I take. Yeah sure, I'll be there Sunday 16th Oct......WHY cos its ARSENAL but we must make a change before its to late. TONY ADAMS,STEVIE BOULD surely now is the time to bring them in. Defence coach, pat rice replacement, manager maybe. Surely it cant get much worse????

The most worrying thing from the game was that they missed three one on ones with our jeeper and all we missed was Gervinho's pathetic first hslf strike. We could have easilylost a game we controlled in large parks 5-1 or 5-2. The midfield although we had controldid not fashion one chance. Make no mistake we are definitely in a relegation dog fight.

I think kronke could have been hinting that wenger could be moved upstairs in the near future and forever. Since dein and fizman have left the club, there has been no one at board level whose main priority is to win trophies. Id like to see that happen with benitez in charge. Wenger could be more suited to director of football role and get gazidis out. That way kronke has his man, we get a new manager and maybe our club back.

Ramsey is only 20 and should be in a team where his talent can grow, surrounded by top class pros like Cesc and Cashley Mk2. He is forced to play in an under performing team. It is Wenger's fault our promising stars are injured and under achieving "We’re not even close to the best in England" not even in London!

Brought in only stop-gap signings (save Arteta)? Arteta is so slow around the pitch it's laughable, a 100 meter sprint between him and Andy Carrol would have to be be measured in the 20's, rather than 10's of seconds. Wenger's ability to select a player to sign has been questionable for some time, unlike his ability to buy a player and play him anywhere but his best poition. His player selection hit an all time low with Squillaci and Koelshney and has never looked like recovering. He could have bought Parker, Mata, and Cahill, but of course he knew better...

Martin O'Neill - can anyone tell me what he has achieved in recent years, or in any parallel universe spanning space time that Wenger has not....and on what budget? If you want Wenger out as is your perogative, please come up with someone better than him, do you really want a long ball manager at this club? Martin O Neill should NEVER be anywhere near any Gooners wishlist, whatever the situation. But you do have a point, if we lose Wenger, I can guarantee this board will appoint an inferior manager, most likely on the cheap, and in my mind, MON certainly fits that bill Powershift - very very premature. We have finished above Spurs and in the CL for what 15 years? That is some shadow. Our injury hit team outplayed a full strength Spurs team for much of the game, it took a handball and some really stupid errors from us to gift them a win on their own ground. Powershifts are not decided on single seasons or results. If Spurs finish above us for the next two of three seasons, maybe you can start to think about the use that term, but come on, this is Spurs, they are even better at shooting themselves in the foot than we are. A couple injuries and they will be dropping stupid points again, as they always do. Do not get taken in by the media hype around Spurs, Arry spends hours getting on the right side of hacks and they report accordingly. Things are bad, but not that bad. If any team will take a place in the top 4 at our expense, it will be Liverpool, anyone who can spend £35m on erm... Andy Carroll will certainly raise the funds in Jan to make a real challenge, also interesting to note some of their favourable ref decisions since Kenny's meeting with Mike Riley. Not much comfort I know but in my view, reality.

Judging by the title, skill is not an issue with the squad. They need some inspiration - to hear that Sangna has broken a leg and that Scezezny now has a back injury must fill the changeroom with confidence - Wenger, although accountable must be thinking everything is conspiring against him -I can't blame him - regardless of the quality of player, that means Squillaci, TV, Djorou, Sagna, Scezezny, and Kos are currently unavailable - its now a case of who else can we put there. The back four and goalie now looks like this. Fabianski, Gibbs, Mertesaker, Song, Santos which is a long way from ideal. What happens if one of these get injured now?. Even Man utd with two key players out do not look the same team. (Rooney/ Hernandez). Because Song drops to the back, the midfield is now short. Added to that, Ramsey is also firing on one cylinder. Now there is a makeshift back four - a mid-field that offers no protection to them and forwards who have to feed off scraps. Benayoun was brought on purely to give Jenkinson protection against Bale which didn't happen. I don't see an improvement even after the two week break - the team cannot absorb these many injuries - full stop. Doesn't matter who is in charge

Desperate times call for desperate measures. 7 points from 7 games and Wenger seems clueless. He says we are working hard on our defence in training every day. Really? And just who is leading the coaching sessions? The big worry here is that we cannot get the basics right. He is still employing the methods he was using when he had a squad of world class players. We don’t have that anymore – we now have just an average squad. Sad to say that Wenger is now a busted flush – he has no chance of getting us out of the mire. He is too stubborn and too arrogant to change. Come the end of the season, if we finish 15th I just cannot see him keeping his job – no matter what Kronke says. And as for smooth-talking Gazidis and the rest of the board, they are equally culpable for sitting back and letting this happen. Shame on them!

Agree with old timer, there are things wrong but bashing Wenger continually without suggesting a viable alternative is rubbish. So far have only heard O Neil mentioned. Don't remember him doing much of a job at Villa. If I remember correctly he has a history of throwing his toys out of the pram when the going gets tough. Once this side settles down things will improve but at the moment its near hysteria every game.Gooners need to man up and get behind the team. True fans sign up for life not just for the good times.

Can someone please explain to Wenger the simple "Fergie" system of "buying from a point of strength to boost the squad/team". Why must we wait until Cesc and Nasri had packed for new shores before we sign...last 20minutes of the transfer window, the door slamming behind our asses as we barely scramble Arteta et al through. Please, please, please Wenger, use the January window to buy quality or else leave our f**kin club in better hands and go. I have loved and respected Wenger before but i am now teetering towards insanity coz of him. JUST ASK YOURSELF IF YOU'RE AKB..."How many among Arsene's current crop would qualify for the INVINCIBLES' bench, let alone 1st team??????"

There are players more culpable than others in our set up at the moment but im not going to hammer Jenkinson as one of them. He looks to me like he has lots of heart, but his temperamaent is being tested to an extreme that it shouldnt be playing in a struggling team like this. He needed reserve games. The truth is that chemistry across the whole squad is askew and the balance of types of personality in the team is all wrong and has been for 4-5 years. Theyre a very urbane, cultured but lightweight bunch and reflect the Coach's persona. This is why Arsene needs a tough and abrasive contrasting type of guy alongside him who will say what types we need to bring in and who can handle difficult customers and perhaps break the glass ceiling that some of our players seem to have imposed on themselves. Aaron Ramsey looks like a lad who is far from having shed the psychological burden that his leg break caused. Perhaps he never will. Very sad when you think what a driven, decisive player he looked until that neandherthal at Stoke took him out. C mon you Gunners

The Good: The spine of the team is still very good. Schez-TV (when fit)-whilshere-RVP The determination to play an attacking brand of football (even though we don't have the players currently to effectively play the arsene brand). RVP is still fit and still currently an Arsenal striker. The Bad: Unfortunately these outweigh the few good points... The club wage structure. This urgently needs to be addressed. We loose world class players consistently to keep a few poor players on high squad wages (deneilson,Diaby, arsharvin, Song and Chamak are way over paid and should be shipped immediately even if it means loosing a transfer fee to get them off the books). Ramsey is a young player developing and should not be playing in CM, but should be drafted in for weaker games as a squad player. Song- when have we ever seen him make a crunching fair tackle? In his position, you'd expect about 3 a game- don't think I've ever seen it. He just fouls in bad areas and looses the ball to often. Him turning his back at the Chelsea game to concede a goal last season was the last straw for me! Players arriving for games dressed like gangsters with headphones on instead of suits is a disgrace. Wenger never shouting at or yelling at players, only praising. Players caring more about hairstyles than football. Untold millions of supporters money sitting in god knows who's bank account instead of being re-invested in players. While supporters still flock to the stadium nothing will change. Wenger out will change nothing, new manager will still have to work for the greedy board! Until fans protest against board. Wenger never wanted to loose the players we did, he was told he had to sell. Were the signings his 1st choice? No- he hinted they were not. The board are running the club as a profit making business, and the fans are the clowns paying up and blaming wenger. RvP will leave at the end of season- but don't worry, he'll be replaced by a 16 year old Nigerian we've never heard of, and more money in the bank and a few more dosh to spend on squad players wages!

Couldn't agree more... There is no heart or tenacity in their game.. None!! I say make jack captain.. Sure it will place pressure on hisshoulders but think of how young parlour was when he stepped up.. The fact that arsenal need to make a player captain just so he stays at the club is a joke!! Arsenal must build a new era around wilshere, because he has a gooner heart, plays with passion.. I envy rooneys aggressive competitive nature everytime I watch united.. No arsenal player has that hunger to compete and destroy teams.. Until verm and jack cone back arsenal will keep suffering.. My heart still says the champions league is in reach, but I know in reality the Europa league is probable.. What about arsene saying we now can't win the league!!.. Has this man lost his marbles or what? Is he that naive?

first half of your comments spot on but then you go for type and bash the manager. Sit and consider the bloody injuries we have again? Is that the managers fault? Look back a few years Fab used to miss passes, the so called fans had Song in tears when he was a young lad, RVP was a waste of time a hot head remember? I could go on and on even the boss Arsne who. Its been hard this year but it will improve, IMO they better in patches in this game than they have done in the past three games. Yep the scum won this time lets just get behind them hey? As for the clowns who want to get rid of the boss you must be either crackers or spud supporters.(IMO)

Yes man. Youre spot on. Its the flame of stubborn desire to win every match. This stubborness in turn is displayed in your never say die attitude coupled with intelligent football sense. Also , the desire and attitude to work harder then your teammates. All of these will bear only one fruit . . .i.e. Success, no more silly schoolboy mistakes.

Agree with the general comments but over the season so far Ramsey has been one of Arsenal's best players. Some of our "stars" inc Van Persie, Sagna, Walcott let their heads drop easily when things aren't going Arsenal's way - Ramsey keeps playing. Arteta and Walcott gave the ball away just as much against Spurs.

Jenkinson - out of his depth? Who isn't against Gareth Bale and with no protection from the midfield to help him. Ramsey - not good enough. He wasn't great but give the boy a chance look what he's playing with. the movement up front was painful to watch. Walcott runs away from play, he hides. He shoots when he should pass and vice versa. The guy has had a long time to improve his all round play and quite clearly hasn't done so. He's the fastest man going forward and the slowest man coming back. VP went missing not acceptable from your captain, only Gervinho wanted the ball and came looking for it. Scezezny, Song and Coquelin stood out for their heart and commitment The sticking point for me is that Wenger does not have the players to play the tactics he wants. Its ok having 3 up top when we have the ball, but when their full backs were bombing on it was 6 against 3 in midfield, no wonder they found it easy to pick gaps. It was noticeable how much of a spark Arshavin and Benayoun added when they came on (believe me I did not expect to be wrting that!) they are intelligent players and can see a pass. It is a collective failure of management, coaching, and players with little or no awareness and little or no fight when it gets tough

People getting at Jenkinson are harsh. Prior to united he had some excellent games. United sending off has clearly rocked his confidence a bit, but by christ he was left 2 on 1 countless times. He was hardly bad when he cam on v Spurs. He at least tracks runners, has a decent touch and puts in a shift. The fact Wenger now does not develop youth, more feeds them to the lions, is more to blame than the individuals. We can already see his new pet Coquelin replacing Denilson. Players like Ramsey at 20 are having to carry the entire midfield on their shoulders. This is not developmental, it is detromental to players careers, and it is Wenger rolling the die here. Wenger needs to move on, his time has come and next season we won't even have the Europa League. There won't be a season ticket waiting list next year.

    Oct 04, 2011, 12:51 #13784

Of course the players are low on confidence, because Wenger doesn't give them any confidence. If you keep losing games playing a certain way, why should anything change when the manager doesn't change anything himself? Anyway, confidence is not Arsenal's only problem, it's obvious there is a clear lack of quality. Even when Nasri and Fabregas were there we always failed to make the final push, without them we're nothing - mid-table dross.

The team is going backwards to put it right is going to cost a lot of money that is of course if we sign the right players. It seems that even when we had a good side we have never bought from a position of strength all teams that have dominated in my lifetime Liverpool 70's & 80's did this and obviously Utd continue to do so now. What can seem expensive at the time generally paying a bit more for quality works out cheaper in the long run.We spent the best part of £15m on Kos & Squillaci plus wages try shifting them i can't see many takers.Go back a few years Parlour,Edu & Wiltord would be superstars in this team compare it to now.Only Sagna,RVP,TV & Wilshere and the keeper look like they have the quality required & more importantly a bit of heart. The manager & board have had countless transfer windows to put it right they have failed miserably.Arsenal in the early 80's were a mid table side the big difference then was the league was more competitive TV money & gate reciepts were shared Ipswich,Forest & Southampton regularly turned us over.Yes the sugar daddy clubs have a big advantage over us but that argument can be balanced out by the fact that apart from Liverpool who has a similar budget to us?

    Oct 04, 2011, 12:39 #13781

Don't kid yourself that once Jack and TV are back all will be well and we'll challenging for the league again becuase we won't. TV has had so long out it's anyone guess wether he will be the same player again plus you can expect more injuries to follow after so long out. Jack is still young and with our diabolical record at treating injuries he probaly won't come back until next year anyway. Then there will be other players out injured anyway as they are a fact of life that happen at every club (although more at ours than anywhere else) that's why clubs with ambitions build a squad not a skeleton staff. Also just buying defenders isn't the answer if your not going to work with them so they can form a unit. Sagna'a positioning for the first goal was shocking but so many of the goals we concede could be easily prevented. The whole ethos at the club has to change. Defending is just as important as attacking. You have to defend as a team. You have to be commited to it and you must must must be held accountable and shown your mistakes. All this takes serious time and effort and isn't a result of luck. It needs work on the training ground, leaders on the pitch and analysis after.

It's really shameful that we can't watch our team play with the confidence that they will get the job done. A lot of things is wrong with this team and it boils down to confidence and the heart of a champion. Its high time Theo walcott...Ramsey be made to sit on the bench....they got nothing to offer as of now....some thing drastic need to be done...on the positive this team will still play and win tropphies its just a matter of time.

You say you must be loyal but to what? Arsene or Arsenal. If you keep on attending you are backing Wenger and the board. A sizeable boycott on attending and merchandize will send a message. Ask yourself this, will Wenger ever buy a scrapping tall midfielder and tough centre backs. The answer is no as they will never be technically good enough for his deluded regime. He has no room for feisty players and therefore no heart in the team. Kronke's "he can stay forever crap" gives him yet more power. Its pressure he needs, thank god some journos are at least calling him to account. He is a tired busted flush. Time to go.

Monaco is the indicator here. Wenger nearly got them relegated and let things get to such a state he was sacked, rather than change anything. He'd rather die than make the necessary changes. 'Best club side in the world' stuff is so off the scale of delusion, so completely the opposite of the direction we're actually going, as to make you worry for his mental health.

I stopped taking Wenger seriously ages ago and his desperate and embarrasingly daft comments just make me laugh now. If we do sign any players in January my big wish is that Wenger is not still around to sign them. I have had more than enough of his super quality, gutless prima donnas and would love to see someone like Martin O'Neil given a chance. Depressingly with a man like Kronke in charge, Wenger will be going nowhere fast and I think we will have to get used to being a top eight club at best. Worryingly we are an injury away (RVP) from a relegation battle and even if he stays fit I can see us in the bottom eight if we continue like we have been. We have been taken for a ride since the move from Highbury - the trouble is it is a ride in the other direction to what was promised - down and not up.

I agree with pretty much everything that you've said. However I feel that if we continue in this vain I can't see Wenger still being arsenal manager next year. If we finished mid table, no europe never mind champions league, how could Wenger justify his position. I personally think he should have been sacked before now, no manager for a top club in the world could survive 6 seasons without a trophy. I think even ferguson would struggle to survive. I can't stand Arsene's nonsensical jibberings about wanting to be the biggest club in the world, we are NOWHERE NEAR THAT. I hate to say it but the power has shifted in North London, the hated Spuds have a better team and will most likely finish higher in the league. I don't think getting rid of Wenger would solve all our problems, I think the Board are just as much a problem. In modern football you need a board that will back a manager, and a manager who has the guts to spend big if you want to win trophies. All the big teams in the world spend big, even Barca who have a great academy system still spend large sums of money on players like Fabregas, Villa, sanchez etc. How can we possibly compete both domestically and in europe when we have a manager who is afraid to spend big.

What Arsenal really need is a defensive coach (which had worked wonders even with a make-shift back four), a diagnostics specialist (Dr. Greg House would do) and a friggin' shrink. I really don't know how as an Arsenal player you can get lax during a North London derby. We've been bottlers, who get happy with one good performance and do not find it important to repeat it in the next match. Each match I'm having to listen to the famous handbrake excuse, the midweek fatigue excuse, the other team playing well excuse and we 'dropped off' excuse. The mentality of the team was wrong even in the Cesc Fabregas era. Patrick Vieira, on the other hand, would have single-handedly bashed anyone who got any bit complacent. No surprise that our last trophy came with his last kick as an Arsenal player. So yes, you've nailed it when you say Arsenal players lack heart. It has been happening far too long and now it's a legacy.
