How was it for you?

Squillaci: Will he get your vote?

The Gooner’s end of season survey has been an annual tradition since the first one appeared in issue 10, way back in April 1989, and it has steadily grown in size and popularity over the years to the point where last years survey attracted over 3000 responses to the 64 questions which were posed.

The survey seeks to clarify how the Gooner family have viewed the last nine months by asking questions which you will no doubt have debated with your friends and colleagues in the pub, in the ground, in workplaces, on internet forums and anywhere else Gooners gather together. There are a lot of questions and you need to complete them in one session, so we’d suggest you get yourself a drink (a strong one given that you’ll be reliving the last nine months), put aside 10-15 minutes to do it and perhaps give some thought to some of the key categories beforehand which are mentioned in the remainder of this article.

There’s no doubt it’s been a roller-coaster of a season which has finished with Arsenal in a league position which many Gooners doubted was achievable at the end of August last year. Can the season therefore be classed as a success given the low expectations or does a trophy-less season always constitute failure for a club of Arsenal’s size and standing?

Last year over half of you voted Jack Wilshere our player of the season as well as the most improved player at the club, but sadly we’ve not seen anything of him since the Emirates Cup tournament last July, so he’s unlikely to figure in the voting this time round. Robin van Persie is an obvious favourite to succeed him as player of the season after a sensational year, but will one of his thirty plus goals also take the honours in the Best Arsenal Goal category?

In the most disappointing player poll, the top two from last time are both currently playing their football away from Arsenal – Arshavin in Russia and Denilson in Brazil. I can’t imagine too many of us will be upset if neither of them return during the summer, but Arshavin was around for long enough this season to perhaps be a contender for this title again.

Although, the defeat at Old Trafford was the worst in over 100 years, there have been other games which may come into the reckoning when you decide which was the worst team performance of the season.

And who will Gooners blame for last summer's transfer debacle? Arsene Wenger has taken plenty of stick from fans this season; some harsh and uncalled for and some well constructed and valid. Last year 38% of respondents thought it was time for a change in manager, while 53% were prepared to give him another year. How will those levels have changed twelve months on?

Amongst other things, we’ll also be asking for your views on who we should sign, who we should sell, how well run the club is, whether we have the right financial model in place and your thoughts on the owner.

Finally, whilst we welcome feedback from our readers throughout the year, the survey also provides you with an opportunity to tell us what you like and don’t like about the fanzine, our website and our monthly podcasts. We made some changes to The Gooner at the start of the season and incorporated a number of ideas which were suggested by readers who responded to the survey last year and we are therefore keen to know how they have been received.

As usual, every survey completed with a name and contact details will be entered into a draw to win the new home shirt and we might try to find a couple of other prizes to give away as well.

When you’re ready, click here to begin and help us make this our most comprehensive and successful Gooner Survey ever. The results will appear in the first issue of next season as well as here on the Online Gooner.

After watching our west london neighbours win the champ league,it hurt because that should have been the gunners to win. sometimes things are meant to be,we have dropped our standards and they should be raised! show some fight, spirit and desire. The money is always a issue, manu have shown that over the last thirty years,so chelski and man city shouldnt make a difference,it is what it is,dont make excuses. i blame the board at arsenal and the yank needs to wake up. cant see wenger turning it around, too many mistakes and bull**** as well. im always a gooner and proud to say that name.

I don't think you can consider it a big accomplishment to get third if you are the one who screwed up the team in the first place. It annoys me every time I hear people go on about that. If it wasn't for Arsene and Gazidis screwing up the transfers we wouldn't have been in that position in the first place. And now they have left it late AGAIN with Theo, Alex and Robin. Clearly we have learned nothing about getting contracts in order so it's time for both of them to go. The club needs to take a new direction.

After reading some posts I have to agree, sometimes it just seems we just dont have that fire in the belly, the players 2 me seem 2 b going through the motions in certain games. Also we dont have any experianced players, players who have won stuff and are winners. The board seem the same, I think this attitude has crept in from top and trickled down to the players.

After the start we had I am very thankful to Arsene after the miracle he has pulled off. Robin Van Persie gets a big thanks too, he defies description! Looking forward to next season, feeling optomistic. Come on you Gunners!

All credit to M.Wenger for finishing 3rd after the disastrous start and losing his 3 main midfielders - Nasri, Cesc and Jack.

I take it including alex song as one of the 5 named players in the player of the year section and leaving him out of the names in the most dissapointing player was a joke!

Simon - I dont disagree with your comments. Unfortunately, this season could have been so much more (with both Manchester clubs slipping up left right and centre). The problem is: how will this team improve? I dont see any wholesale changes coming (not wenger's style), so do we sit back and hope for a miracle next season? we've done that for 7 consecutive seasons now. We need players with a better attitude (2 or 3 will be enough to kick others in the backside; infuse some passion and perhaps get us back to trophy-winning ways). The current squad is too cozy. They're too relaxed in their mediocrity

Just one problem with the survey. The question about whether the season was a success or not is loaded. Should just be 'in your opinion has Arsenal had a successful season'?!

canada-i like your opening sentiments but we are a team that won 8 games from losing positions so they don't just roll over and die. They are horribly inconsistent and prone to losing games rather than just hanging out for a draw when playing badly and are a right curates egg but seeing off supposedly the best spurs side since '61 who elected to only try in one competition surely warrants some credit and this season was definitely better than the last one in terms of guts and gumption and something you could take pride in.

Mike, this is the exact type of discussions we need to be having at the close of season. We all know Wenger wont resign and he wont get sacked; so, for those perennial silly folks who want to waste time discussing how we can get Wenger out, spend your energies on how we can force Wenger to listen more and fix our shambolic defense. Nasri came out with some statements earlier today that has met with a lot of criticism; but in actual fact, that's exactly what is needed here. Outspoken players who hurt when they dont win. We have a bunch of players with a very wrong body language: they are all too happy just to slide along and achieve nothing. We need to be intolerant to failure. There needs to be consequences for a season where we pretty much dropped points against the entire bottom half of the table! We keep harping on about buying this player and that player. The emphasis has to be on the current culture at the club, where top 4 finish is seen as success! 7 seasons without a trophy is deemed acceptable. Regardless of which player you buy, if the attitude remains as it is, the team (collectively) will continue to flaunder! We need determined players who want to win; we have to get rid of a lot of our players who have had 7 comfortable seasons with ZERO trophies but still walk about with a swagger! Let's devote this summer to getting our ARSENAL mentality back! Starting with Wenger! 2011/12 season is a FAILURE! end of.

I Still think that the standard of our signings is focused on the average rather than the exceptional. Gervinho,Arteta,Santos,Mertasacker,Benyoun on loan and now Podolski who had to drop down from Bayern because he couldn't get in the side (and how much competition has there been for him from any top side NONE)....it says it all!

I've taken part. I'm the one who put that I would like Denilson to return from his loan deal

Disappointing season starting with the worst run transfer window ever. Should have bought much sooner and it is not acceptable to say their were difficulties. Gazidis is paid a small fortune and should be able to over come these. Trying to be clever in the transfer window does not pay off and is something we have done for the last five years. If we want a player we should get him not dicker about the price for weeks so that we lose him to other clubs. Also need to improve our scouting if Gervinho is the best we can come up with.
