We want people with 'Arsenal in their blood'

The club’s figurehead, a man of unquestioned principle

Spotted this on the arsenal.com archive, (if the club remove it subsequent to this, I have done a screen grab which I will send for onlinegooner to link to!). Thought Arsenal fans might be re-assured by the words(!) It’s written by Richard Clarke, but I am not shooting the messenger. Someone might want to put the chairman out of his misery though!

We want people with 'Arsenal in their blood'

by Richard Clarke

Chairman Peter Hill-Wood says he always wants to keep the Club in the hands of people who “have Arsenal in their blood”.

An increasing number of Premier League teams have come under foreign ownership in recent years. However Arsenal have been rock-solid with members of the Hill-Wood and Bracewell-Smith families on the board for the best part of a century.

The current chairman sees strength in stability and continuity.

“I think our overall view is that we should strive to maintain the shareholding and the custodianship as it is,” Mr Hill-Wood said at Thursday's AGM. "Arsenal runs through my veins and I know all the Bracewell-Smiths feel this as well.

“I think it would be a great shame if that was to change. We have made many statements in the newspapers that we don’t want control to be handed over to somebody who hasn’t got Arsenal in their blood. I assure you that we will continue to pursue that aim.

“We are not going to sell out to the first man that comes along. Rest assured, as long as you don’t get too fed up with us, we are going to stay around.”

The final quote seems pretty relevant at the minute: "Rest assured, as long as you don’t get too fed up with us, we are going to stay around." Surely enough incentive for a Hill-Wood out campaign?

Well, true to his word, he didn't sell out to 'first man that comes along'. No, he sold it to second one - for a few dollars more.

Nilesh Bhagat - but then we are not representing Arsenal which PHW is. As Chairman he should be tactful and know how to conduct himself at meetings which he clearly does not. Is it any wonder supporters have taken against him, behaving as he does like some feudal lord?

Good one frank it didn't last long just until the best offer came along and the best deal for him.One thing he did strive to do was stay around.

I wonder whether our mascot should join the board - he would feel quite at home alongside the chairman.

In reply to the comment by Tony Evans, 'Hill-Wood spouting his vitiol at us' I have to laugh at this when I consider the amount of bile and vitriol spouted on this site toward him personally, the board in general and the club overall.
