Wenger: We change the way we play to stop the strong points of our opponent.

OnlineGooner’s palms have been suitably greased to do a bit of promo for club commercial partners Huawei, specifically to publicise their new Arsenal Edition Ascend P7 smartphone. So bear with us, such aspects of life help us to continue providing the content we do.

First up, we, along with several other Arsenal fans from various sources were asked if we wanted to pose a specific question to Arsene Wenger. You can see the complete video of all queries asked in the link to publicise the smartphone above.

Anyhow, we decided to ask the following – For big matches Arsenal have played, have you ever set your team up differently to counter the opposition strengths. If not, why not? If yes, give us an example and do you feel it worked?

This was predictably whittled down to the first question only, and Huawei asked us to film the asking of the question, so Gooner media whore and podcast host David Oudot stepped in to do the honours.

The result can be seen on this very page, but for those who would prefer to read the response, Arsene says he has. His full answer was as follows – “For big matches of course, for us managers it is always very difficult to find the way to stop the strong points from our opponents without losing our own qualities. For years we were very strong in the big games. I think last year was a bad year on that front. It happens of course that we change the way we play and we try to cancel the strong points of our opponent”

This was filmed on August 7th, but after the events in Dortmund on Tuesday evening, you can draw your own conclusions!

£173m in the bank proves once and for all that Wenger does not use the resources available to him to address the glaring weaknesses in the team, in this he is negligent (or incompetent). It also blows the argument that Arsenal cannot compete financially out of the water. Arsenal are every bit a rich man's play thing as Chavski or Citeh, the only difference is, our rich man is the manager and not a super-rich oligarch owner. It's a time for change at the club, I imagine the pro independence lot felt a bit like I did when Wenger signed a new contract - Scared little sheep comes to mind.

Carragher is part of the Sky media Arsenal hate machine, trying to divide the fan base. He's only jealous because he never played for wenger. Ignore the media. Unless of course some simpleton like Didi Hamann comes on blurting we can reach the CL final, then please feel to take this as gospel from someone who knows what they're talking about.

Will be out of the title race and in meltdown after next weekend. Out of Europe by December. Wenger reaching new lows......which for him is saying something. Villa and Spurs will murder this team

The tactically clueless OGL never ceases to amaze and baffle in equal measure. Equally as baffling is his decision to have precisely no back up in defence and no holding midfield player whilst accumulating an eye watering cash surplus of 173 million. You couldn't make it up. T

It will be a wonderful day when Wenger eventually leaves and we don't have to listen to his s**t anymore.

Alternative questions that could have been asked. Why buy a player for £42m and them play him out of position? Was it greed that led you to decide not take the opportunity to retire gracefully after our spawny FA Cup win? Why have you not utilised the mountains of hard cash in Arsenal's resources, all £173m? Do you ever feel regret at ruining Arshavin's career? Etc Etc Etc.......

Journalist: Arsene how are you going to manage to beat your rivals at home at least on a more consistent basis since you hardly ever get anything away. Arsene: Look err...we have mental 'strengz'

Our opponents used to do this against us (even Fergie), but now our opponents set up directly to expose our weaknesses, ie full backs in no mans land and 2 and against 1 on the break. Last time arsene did it was 2005 Cup Final, and God knows how, but with the end result you could say it worked. Think wenger has been tactically scarred for life since that day, so has reverted to going toe to toe with all and sundry. It usually comes off against the dross, but ends in tears against any half decent team.

This is just an excuse. He wants to play like Barcelona to score the perfect goal .The Spanish league is uncompetitive. Most of the Barcelona players are below 180cm. I can bet my last cent Barca will find it hard to win the epl every year or every two years. Wenger hasn't fixed the flaws in the defence. He believes he can outscore the other side.Until the defence can prevent further easy goals from corners and set pieces, the jury is still out.AV will be a real test.

Usual Wenger hogwash then, Kevin. I would love to have heard what the example was and how it worked!
