In the current issue of The Gooner, the Gooner Gems feature focuses on the recently released book ‘Little Bit Silverware’, by WengerKnowsBest, the creator of a Twitter account @wengerknowsbest and a website dedicated to lampooning the Arsenal manager’s interview answers.
Before we get to a short interview with WengerKnowsBest himself, there is an offer on the book for Gooner readers, who can get 10% off the RRP of £9.99, so £9.00 with free P&P to UK addresses. Orders will need to be placed by calling GBS on 01206 256101, quoting the offer code LBS10.
We also have five competition copies to win. Details of that after the interview…
The Gooner: What on earth gave you the idea to start this particular Twitter account?
Well errrrr, I must say, it was shortly after we suffered little bit silverware niggle against Birmingham City at Wembley in 2011. The fan belt's reaction to that defeat was exceptionally harsh and a few weeks later I had some small small ideas for some tweets. So I thought "Why not?" I must tell you, I did not expect 20 followers, so 120,000 is absolutely outstanding.
And what do you do when you are not tweeting as @wengerknowsbest?
I spend day and night, night and day, trying to find players of top top quality. If I can find it I will do it. I can tell you, sometimes we get exceptionally close. We were once very close to signing Lionel Messi. How close? Look, close.
Will you allow the BBC's Jacqui Oatley to wield a microphone in your face again?
I don't want to comment on speculation. I don't know Oatley.
Ok, so how is your relationship with Lukas Podolski these days?
I can tell you, I believe Podolski has outstanding potential. On the pitch, he lacks maybe little bit sharpness. But off the pitch, he shows super super quality and has just been promoted to Group Director of Social Media.
What does your communication director Mark Gonella think of your tweeting?
Well I must say, he follows @wengerknowsbest. And why not? To be a top top top Director of Communications, it is essential to know what is happening footballistically. Did I request from Gonnella respectfully a small small additional foreword from Arsène Wenger, for my book Little Bit Silverware? Yes. Did he agree? No. He likes the account very much, but errrrr was maybe little bit unsure to approach Wenger directly. Did I write a small additional foreword on Wenger's behalf? Yes and I can assure you, it is outstanding.
Will you continue tweeting after the day that Arsène Wenger leaves Arsenal?
Thank you for your interest in my affairs. Well I have three more years on my contract and Mr Kroenke believes in my financial quality, so I look forward to many more years. I know that the fan belt is planning little bit march in my honour, so that shows overall that I still have exceptional support.
Haynes, your publishers normally put out car manuals. Is there a reason you used them to publish your work?
Haynes have plenty of petrol in the tank and a good engine.
Finally, whose idea was it to turn your twitter account into a book?
Overall, it was my idea. I believed that an account of the season would have super super potential. And, I must say, I was right, because frankly my book has exceptional quality. I planned its title as Little Bit Silverware, so it was quite helpful that we won the FA Cup. The semi-final and final were maybe little bit un-com-fort-able! The book is a chiselled narrative of the season, with many photo-spread exposés and revelations. From private conversations with managers and the inside stories on little bit controversial transfers, to my dream-like appearance on Bullseye and why Mertesacker is called the BFG. There are many guest appearances too, so at under £10 for a hardcover book, at only £9.99, for over 223 pages, I remain absolutely convinced that my book has outstanding comedy.
