The pit of winter is a hard time for fanzine sales. And The Gooner was not helped with our Xmas/New Year issue by the fact that all of the games we were selling at kicked off at 5.30pm or later. That means it was dark for over an hour before the game, and our sales are invariably more healthy in daylight.
So, we’ve a few more remaining of our The calendar issue – with Arsène Wenger on the front cover – than we’d hoped for. So this Sunday before the game against Villa, our sellers will have copies of this issue which, if you did not buy it, you can get for free if you bring along an older issue of The Gooner to swap for it.
It means you will be able to get the 2015 Art of Arsenal calendar which can be detached from the centre of the issue. And if you haven’t got the The current issue with Thierry Henry on the front cover, it’s an opportunity to buy that one. Please note, the exchange deal only applies to issue 247, not the current one, which is £2.50.
Obviously we take the occasional opportunity on the website to remind Arsenal fans that we rely on the mag sales to keep the other arms of The Gooner operation going – specifically this website and the podcast. And the demise of Manchester United’s Red Issue fanzine is an example that fanzines can’t be taken for granted and will only be around as long as there is sufficient interest in them.
Anyway, a chance for you to get a free copy of the Xmas/New Year edition on Sunday simply by bringing an older one along to trade. Just hand it over to one of our sales team and they will give you a copy of issue 247.
The current issue of The Gooner can be bought online here. It will also be on sale at the home games v Villa & Leicester.
