3 signed copies to give away in new competition

Signed copies of Ian Wright’s Autobiography ‘A Life in Football’ to win

The Gooner has offered three signed copies of Ian Wright’s new autobiography as competition prizes for website readers to win.

Published by Constable, it’s a 384 page hardback with an RRP of £18.99, although you can buy it for under £10 online.

So before the question, here’s some info from the inside cover of the book to give you an idea of what to expect…

Arsenal legend, England striker and TV pundit extraordinaire, Ian Wright is one of the most fascinating and important figures in modern football.

His journey from a South London council estate to national treasure is everyone's dream. From Sunday morning football directly to Crystal Palace; from 'boring, boring Arsenal' to inside the Wenger Revolution; from Saturday afternoons on the pitch to Saturday evenings on primetime television; from a week in prison to inspiring youth offenders; from punditry and back again, Ian reveals all about his extraordinary life and career.

But that's only half of the story. In this unputdownable autobiography, Ian Wright frankly discusses how retirement affects footballers; the rise of agents; why George Graham deserves a statue; social media; why music matters; breaking Arsenal's goal-scoring record; racism in and out of the game; and the unadulterated joy of playing alongside Dennis Bergkamp.

Not a standard footballer's autobiography, A Life in Football is a thoughtful and entertaining insight into a Highbury Hero and one of the greatest and most idiosyncratic sports stars of recent years.

Also there is a ‘Look Inside’ preview of some of the pages from the book on Amazon’s Kindle page – here (click ‘Look Inside’ above the image of the front cover to open a pop up with the text about meeting Arsène Wenger for the first time)

Ok, so now a question if you wish to enter to win one of the three signed copies.

Which of the following clubs did Ian Wright never play for?
a) Millwall
b) Celtic
c) Burnley

Email your answer to [email protected], remembering to include your postal address in the entry, so that in the event of your winning we know where to send your prize.

Get your answers in by midnight on Wednesday (28th September) and we will announce the winners in the Thursday morning piece on the Basel match.

Good luck!

Mad Monk, yes Neill getting smashed with a brick, imagine if that were the case over the last ten seasons TOF would be looking like the elephant man now, or worse, they could have built a statue of him by now out of the bricks that were swept up after every game.

Monk. The reason why GG has a better games to trophies ratio is that PHW and KF got rid of GG when he was going off the boil. In those days Arsenal was still the ruthless machine that Herbert Chapman and George Allison had left in place.

As much as I liked IW as a player, and I welcome his voice on TV these days as a true Arsenal partizan, I won't be buying his book. Too many football biogs promise to blow the lid off the game's secrets but are all ultimately damp squibs. Cascarino wrote a good one in the 80s/90s; there was an Eamonn Dunphy book from the 70s; and a former Charlton player wrote a book that perfectly summed up the life of a relative journeyman (Gary Nelson?). TA's autobiography was interesting but more because of how he dealt with his problems rather than the footie insight. Someone gave me PV's ghost-written book one year - pure banality and two or three hours lost that I'll never get back. Jamee son - the mere idea of you holding a book up the right way, let alone trying some of the big words, gave me a huge laugh. Thanks for that little man.

As I have just got home from Belgium ( been to Francorchamps home of the Spa Circuit ) I recall memories it's all I can do to keep sane driving all over Europe. The EUFA cup early 80's maybe 81 or 82 Winterslag away what a trip even though we lost to a load of part time miner's it was the fact you were there hard to explain to the new age 'fan's' . They think Wenger has a rough ride ? Not that I condone it but Terry Neill got smashed in the head with a brick that night because we were that ****e ( I am still laughing now) Can you imagine the outrage on Untold? Memories eh! Loved it back then and hoped to still love it now but someone along the way has stopped me . Gutted!

Mad Monk, great post, they were the days, (and funny how one of wengers many bathroom attendants can air brush history) and we could've still had them if it weren't for an arrogant, selfish, egoistic manager. wenger out now.

Untold have no idea about passion (looking at Tatty the Great I doubt it very much in all aspects of life ) but I remember Wrighty and J Barnes jumping around like 2 school kids waving a very large union jack in front of thousands of Argie fans at the World Cup after Owen scored ! Now that takes some balls

Great memories Mad Monk and I was thinking that ain't the Favourite at the bottom of the road I was born in! Now they are Lynching Henry over on Untold but will they have enough rope for Wrighty. It's open season on anyone who thinks Wengo is not a genius of staggering proportions and looking at the photo they are one hard bunch Lol! Things might get tasty if Alexis decides he wants to leave - more rope!

August 1993, last minute Wrighty goal at the Lane .... 1-0 to the Arsenal, absolute class

Been reminiscing tonight about players from day's gone by and an article from Untold tells it followers about the 1992 - 1993 season. It states how the rubbish Arsenal team only scored 40 league goals and even lost a " crucial" home game against the Spuds 1-3 .... Tatty the Great managed to put a magical spin on it by failing to inform the pie-eyed believers that we actually won 2 cup finals that year. Anyway, the night in question when we lost to the scum GG played the reserves as we had the Cup final at the end of the week and I was in the Favourite that night when Wrighty and the boys came in for a beer ( linighan got a smack in the gob for mouthing off lol) Great night even though we lost. The player's actually cared proper Gooners especially Wrighty who says it as he sees it

Mad Monk I too appreciated Wengo for about a week as I thought he was simply brought in to oversee the financial end while also eventually putting his city and guilds brickwork dip(****) 1 to use building that food emporium single handedly and making himself the envy of all food outlets in the Holloway area. Rumours have WWengo was offered the PSG job a thousand times when everyone knows it was Marks & Sparks who were after him to overall the Holloway store. Wrighty was asked what was his best Wenger moment and he could not think of one - proper gooner who is most unpopular over on the Untold Scientology Channel so will be interesting to see if they even mention the book. Best memory of Wrighty was watching him from the north bank when he was still an Eagle and though 4 down in the match he chased every ****ing ball! Immense!

Jamerson : you do-nut , another gem . We don't need to read "Wenger revolution " , we are living it, lies , spin and clueless tactics ?? A good manager once upon a time , but clueless for over 10 yrs , overstayed his welcome and turned most of us reasonable fans against him. Wrighty , a arsenal legend - Jamerson/ leeky etc arsenal jokers .

For all the Untold dicks who love evidence and stats : George Graham (he managed Arsenal before 1996) 460 games 8 trophies which equates to a trophy around 57 games. Arsene Wenger 1,130 games 15 tropies which equates to a trophy around every 75 games so which one has the better record? I myself did appreciate Wenger when he first arrived as I did with Graham but eventually everyone knows when it's time to go unless you are an arrogant fool clinging on like a punch drunk boxer looking for that last title shot. Wenger should have stepped down at least 6 years ago and he would have had our admiration but people are sick to death of the same excuses every year. And one more thing for you I would have Ian Wright Wright Wright in my team over any striker Wenger has bought including Henry!
