Why Has the Wenger Factor Lost Its Appeal?

Arsene’s stock has fallen not only with fans, but he could get one last shot

Why Has the Wenger Factor Lost Its Appeal?

Would playing stiffs in Europe help a PL challenge?

Arsene Wenger may well be in the dugout barking out orders to his players for another year, but it’s clear the old French man isn’t giving up his seat easily. Why is Wenger still in charge if he hasn’t led Arsenal to Premier League glory in more than 13 years? Any other top 6 Premier League manager would be out on his ears so why is Wenger loved so much by the owners? Simply put, it’s because he’s business-minded and has the ability to not only entertain fans with some good free-flowing football but also entertain the owners by making them money.

Wenger is a stubborn old man who’s not willing to listen to the fans when it comes to new transfers, and it’s now starting to boil over. Fans aren’t only losing faith in the bloke that won the league without losing a game, but they are getting angry with the owners because they haven’t sacked him and aren’t doing anything about his failures, such as not granting the club Champions League football next year. It’s all going a bit Pete Tong for Wenger and the once Weng-factor that meant so much to fans now means very little.

No Champions League Football Next Year

You only need to look at Manchester United to see how much Champions League football matters to a club. David Moyes took over the reins from Sir Alex Ferguson and was sacked less than a year later, and the same happened with Louis Van Gaal when he couldn’t secure Champions League football. It’s not just the owners it matters to, it’s the fans and the players as well. Arsenal players will only be playing on the Europa League stage next season thanks to their poor showing in the Premier League this year and that could mean some players leave for Champions League football with another club.

Players Will Be Heading for the Exit

There are no guarantees that Alexis Sanchez will be staying with the London outfit as he has already come out and said he wants to play on the big European stage. Mesut Ozil is another player that looks to be heading for the doors and if both players left that could leave Arsenal in the lurch once again.

Owners Will Not Make Much Money

The surprising fact is, if the owners have offered Wenger another year’s deal, it is in the hope he will get them out of the big hole they currently find themselves in – the hole that he’s put them in. Any other club in the league would have turned their attention to someone else by now but strangely Stan Kroenke may wish stick by the man he has put so much trust in. The club won’t make as much money in the next financial year, though, and that means Wenger will have lost a bit of respect both on and off the pitch. Is the end near for Wenger? Will he be offered a deal just because he is an easy option for them this year, perhaps there isn’t anyone else big enough available to come in and do the job he can’t anyway?

Will Arsenal Get Back into the Champions League Next Year?

If he does remain, Arsene is going to have it all to do next season because he may not have the firepower he had this season if the likes of Sanchez, Giroud and Ozil leave. Will he finally spend some money on a few additions to help them bounce back into the top 4 places next year? Or will it be the end for Wenger as Arsenal drop out of the European spots completely? If you’re a betting man, make sure you have a look at The Bookies’ Offers. The site lists many great offers for betting players to use when they stake.

Wenger has lost a huge amount of respect in the last season alone and if he is granted an extension to his current deal will be looking to make amends for it next season when he tries to get Arsenal firing again. One benefit Arsenal have in 2017-18 is that they don’t have to worry about playing their best players in the Europa League fixtures, so they can give the Premier League their full attention.

markymark, good post, that would suit the Cyril's and AKB's of this club down to the ground if we all just shut up and go or went away, and just let their messiah continue destroying it, that's just what they've been hoping for and trying to do for the last nine years, but not a fooking chance, yes to think it was a die hard AKB who came up with the term WOB, he had to retire to Walton's mountain after that and change his appearance (some say he had to have plastic surgery) after been expelled from the AKB movement and defrocked at a ceremony at AKB central command. We want wenger out.

@markymark. The latest boycott that you appeared not to boycott and no doubt a membership renewal? Quite hypocritical I'd say.

Cyril - just a few points a number of us have written to the club and been on protests (publisised and pushed by Social media) Without the continuing diatribe then the Websites would not have turned en masse Anti Wenger. The term WOB was created by a blundering idiot on this site is sometimes used in the media . The media had tried to write off social media opinion ascranks and idiots ( see Obnoxious Oliver Holt) however the media itself is now falling into line with social media. The latest boycott day again cranked up pressure on Wengo. It now appears that two Board members have had enough as well. So the diatribe will continue unless you mean by causing a nuisance your advocating possible civil / criminal activity??? I don't think you are BTW

Ron et al. It, in my humble opinion it does not matter what we assume to be material fact. It matters what we can do as individuals to try to change things as miniscule as that may be you know! Complaining on a website as you all do, changes nothing. I know you love this club. Do something radical and write to the club or knock on the door at the stadium and make a nuisance. Enough of this diatribe please !!!!!!

He might not be showing it with his smirking and sly grin (what he has to smirk and grin about is anyone's guess) but losing his precious CL spot (and so called record)finishing fifth is a massive blow to TOF's ego i'm sure it's pissing him off big time, a stain on his precious reputation (as if there weren't plenty of those already, it must be eating away at him big time, what a come down for the manager (and of course his AKB followers who thought it would never happen) who thinks/thought he knows and knew it all, comeuppance at last and it couldn't happen to bigger loser. #no new contract, we want wenger out.

Tonight's breaking news!! GARY MONK is set to become the new Director of Football at AFC! Mr Monk stated that his shock exit from Leeds today was because he simply could not turn down "the opportunity to work under one of the world's greatest managers." There has been no comment as far as I am aware from Le Croque Monsieur.

Wiggy saying that his investment in the club is for the long haul after the failed bid says all you need to know about his ambition. The fact he used the word investment says it all.Having listened to lots of ex players and people that have met Wenger I get the impression that he is probably a quite a nice chap away from football.Bob Wilson spoke in glowing terms how Wenger was supportive during the death of his daughter.Having charm can mask a lot of incompetence and the ex players and press will not analyze his failings too much for fear of upsetting him. What they do not realise is that they are doing him a disservice because he is surrounded by yes men he will feel he is doing a good job and cannot see that his time is up.Someone close to him needs to have an honest friendly chat with him and say 'Arsene you have had a good innings but unfortunately you have turned into a football equivalent of Frank Spencer and you are only good at testing zips. There is a job at the Arsenal launderette testing zips I suggest you take it and we will put in a narcardboard cut out of a fourth official that you can rant at and say o Betty too'.I suggest Keown does it

As I have said before I reckon that Wenger believed that he would finish 4th in front of Liverpool and faraway creepy Kroenke the wig wearing fool who makes baldness look like an art-form most likely bought into Wengo's delusion. It was noticeable how quickly Wengo's attitude changed from that of smug smiling confidence to tetchy nervousness on him hearing that Liverpool had scored right at the end of the first half in their game against Boro. Wenger's used the 4th place trophy and the money he earns to help him keep his dictatorial powers at AFC and Syrupy has been happy to allow him to do so. There are real differences between the so called Champions League and the Europa one the money involved is better in the Champions. The Ropey does have some other downsides playing on a Thursday night more games away against obscure Eastern European sides and until the semi-finals a general apathy among supporters about it all. If Wengo is still in charge next term he - just like Mourinho this season - will not be in a position to not take the Ropey seriously because it may be a'la Jose his best hope of a Champs League spot and Syrupy will be expecting that to happen.Especially when he sees his profits decline at AFC .Three years of that and he may well regret not taking the Billion that Usmanov offered him for his shares. As others have discovered to their cost once you drop out of the top 4 it's not easy to get back into it. This must be the quietest build up to an FA Cup final that I can ever recall .It really is just a sideshow to the events going on behind the scenes at the club. Wengo of course can't build up expectations of success over Chelsea too much so he makes favourites to win the cup, because if he loses then that will just make matters worse .He has already claimed that his 4th place trophy is not important, something that even Henry rubbished live on TV last Sunday when pointing out that Wenger had claimed it was essential for years to be in the Champions League ,you can't attract top top players blah blah blah... Wengo is obviously desperate to keep his job and desperate men will say and do desperate things. I can't see him beating Chelsea myself but strange things happen in cup finals and for Wengo to succeed they will have to do so. The smart money though is on Wengo getting a good hiding and if that is the case we will have to wait and see how things pan-out afterwards . Syrupy has previous for getting shut of managers rather abruptly who fail to make him the money that he feels that he deserves . So perhaps Wengo is fretting a little over that happening to him. He would not have survived anywhere else for 20 odd years that's for sure or at AFC either without his 4th place trophy for the last decade helping him to cover up the obvious flaws in his management .

I like Alsace s post. I differ in that theres not one player who would disappoint me by leaving. Never in nigh on 50 yrs following the Club have i felt that way. Theres not one who a new able Coach would miss and i inc Sanchez. Agree totally re CL. I cant abide it for the most part. It shd be called the Cash Cow Cup, (ECCC). UEFA are to blame for the disdain i have for it. The UEFA and the ECWC s Cups were great and didnt need changing, all sacrificed for money for the chosen 3 Clubs and as far as they're concerned i m convinced many of the matches are fixed to ensure they win ie Madrid Munich Barca . We re crap at it admittedly but Clubs like Arsenal are not going to be allowed to win that anyway. Money, the ruination of Arsenal, Wenger and football generally, thats me.

jj, or can you imagine the weasel celebrating like the specialist in winning last night ? he'd have probably gave a couple of hand movements like he was doing a/the salsa and walked about grinning, we can say what we like about Mourniho (and we have) it's another European trophy for him and UTD, five for utd I think, how many for the specialist in failure ? Like I said earlier this would be his best chance of getting one (if he's still here and hopefully not) but I wouldn't bet on that he'd probably fook it up too. wenger out.

I love the headings and points Leigh. Makes it a lot more readable, so:- 1)I really don't give a t*ss about the Champions League. Until the semi finals it's as dull as ditchwater. We never get any better because we play Bayern or Juve or Barca or Real Madrid once a year and can't gain any real experience which we would in a proper European League. We also never get any better because of Wenger, but that's another story. (2) The season ticket prices have been slashed because of the Europa League. The club must be seriously worried to do that. That spells trouble for Wenger because all that Kroenke really cares about is cash input. (3) Is Europa League football any less tedious than Champions League ? I doubt it. I also don't care about Tuesday ?Wednesday v Thursday. We play huge numbers of Sunday games anyway.(4)Europa Cup upside is that we might get a bit further.(5)Sanchez, Ozil and Bellerin. I expect them all to go, but the one I really want gone is Ozil. Sanchez, Cech and Kos are the only players in the squad that I respect, although I like the Ox and Iwobi. The rest can happily get lost on the basis that they have been smeared with Wenger's slime of failure. (6) Goodbye to Theo and Ramsey 8am day one of the new managers tenure. (7) Wenger is toast. He isn't going to get another contract. Win or lose on Saturday, his legacy is that at the end, he has made an FA Cup Final appearance undesirable to the (thinking) club's supporters because of his own continued presence in the role. (8) Contrary to his valedictory protestations of love for the club, it is in doubt. I doubt it. He is in fact an enemy of Arsenal Football Club and that is how I will remember him. The worst manager in the club's history bar none.

Barking orders is a good one. Imagine the old Ostrich trying a Conte or Klopp move on the touch line. You would hope there would be a Vet on hand to help heal the old bird. Litte (tiny) point on Mesut. How would we know he was no longer at Arsenal? To sum this 'enterprise' up dear old Stan(k) put x into the club and is now getting back the y and the z. He's happy and as long as Wenger can keep smirking there will be no need for change. Anyone for a pizza slice with extra cheese?

First things first he won't be barking out orders, he'll be sitting clueless when not arguing with the third offical blaming the referee. Jesus H, here we go again, and it didn't take long, play the stiffs in Europe ? We're already fooking doing that, you mean the reserves, why should we ? We're now in a competition at out level, we're now in a Competition we might have a chance of winning (but I wouldn't bet on that either if TOF's in charge) your getting a bit above your station do you think we're beneath it ? too good for it ? are we going to abort this one too because it's beneath wenger ? it was good enough for Man yoo and the specialist in winning last night, and if it's good enough for them and others it's good enough for second rate also rans like us we aren't exactly coming down with European trophies under the specialist in Failure, how many is it ? No it may well be the only way he'll get back into the CL. wenger out now.

The odds have to be on him staying. Can't wait to experience the atmosphere in the stadium next year! The summer will whizz by with Arsenal being linked with everyone; there may even be a big name, but Sanchez will go, with Ozil not far behind. Has there ever been such mutinous contempt for an Arsenal manager amongst the fans? Not a pleasant experience - utter crap and a total farce.

What fans he has left his die hard AKB's were giving him one last shot six years ago and one last shot, and one last shot look what has happened we've fooking got worse every season, what, are we going to wait until we're seventh or eighth ? or worse, he didn't deserve last shots then and he certainly doesn't now, he should have been kicked out of this club years ago after all the embarrassments and humiliations lies, spin, deceit, any other manager on this earth with any self-respect let alone respect for the club and with any balls would have walked years ago, but not this coward, no this cretin does not deserve one last shot in any way shape nor form, and if he gets it it will be the biggest miscarriage of justice ever seen in England and indeed the world, and there's been many. I picked up on the Arsene barking out orders. An odd comment considering he's renowned for doing no such thing. Also in regard to his lowered stock, you'd thing so wouldn't you but from , Beckenbauer, Ancelotti , ex players like Pires, media Fodder John Cross and slimey Oliver Holt all shout for him either through self interest I.e he weakens us or purely for the media copy. Thank God now for Adams, Chris Sutton, Wight to an extent , James Olly and the original Wobsters Gooner , Le Grove , ANR who can give structured critique.

'Arsene Wenger.....in the dugout barking out orders to his players'??? When does that happen?? Ever. Le Fraud either doesn't feel the need or doesn't feel capable of administering any in-game management to the team (and on only £8.5m pa, why should he??). When things are going wrong, when his players most need him, he deems it perfectly acceptable to sit on his hands looking terrified. Only the fourth official is apparently deserving of instruction. Never understood why he's not been called out on it in press conferences, it's just bizarre.

Wenger cannot see the problem as he believes we only need two or three players maximum to get the one point we needed. Delusional man will take the club to mid table obscurity and worse if we do not invest in the first team squad. The likes of Bellerin Chamberlain Sanchez Ozil and Ramsey must all be thinking about a future away from Arsenal and whilst this would make the owners a lot of money he cannot keep buying the Snogoods of this world.
