So first up the weather. No doubt the pitch will be fine, and Arsenal will make every effort to ensure the aisles inside and the approaches to the stadium on their land are fully gritted, but there are three factors that may lead to postponement…
1 – The safety of the streets around the stadium
2 – Difficulties with the transport system in London and between London and Manchester
3 – More snowfall today
The odds on the game being postponed – 1/5 on yesterday from Paddy Power, changed yesterday to 15/8 on a postponement. I suspect down to a lot of punters thinking 3-1 on the game going ahead was a very decent gamble, and also the fact that the Spurs v Rochdale FA Cup replay went ahead at Wembley last night.
Anyway, as I write shortly before 12 noon, there is no announcement of a postponement as yet, the snow seems to have stopped falling, and Manchester City are on the train south, so it appears as if the game is going ahead. I have to confess that I would have been quite happy for it to have been delayed until the Sunday of the FA Cup quarter final weekend – for two reasons –
1 – The crowd tonight will be very low because of both the weather and lack of interest following recent performances
2 – It’s bloody cold for our sellers to be out there on the streets for an hour plus shifting copies!
Which brings us onto the new issue which will be on sale given there is no indication that the game will be off. First up, due to a late delivery, subscribers’ copies will be in the post tomorrow. And those that get their copies via e-edition will also get that tomorrow.
Next up, the issue has a decent mix of current and nostalgic content, so if you haven’t bought a copy for a while, give it a try. In every single issue there will be a flyer loosely inserted with details of the campaign to Save The Gooner next season. I spoke to Robbie at Arsenal Fan TV last night and we are going to do an interview about the fanzine in the lead up to the home game v Milan to increase awareness even more. Full details of the contents can be found here.
To buy a copy of the new issue online (which will be despatched tomorrow, Friday), click here. Subscription options (including committing for next season to help us reach our target of 1000) can be viewed here.
To finish, we’re running an ad in the issue for FansBet, an online gambling company with a bit of a difference. Here’s what they have to say to our readers…
'Isn't it time a betting company actually did something for the fans rather than just a resigned shrug accompanied by the usual take, take, take?
About fans, by fans, for fans, new initiative FansBet seeks to partner with fans groups, Trusts and independent supporters' associations to provide a better way for fans who enjoy a bet to have a flutter.
The most fanzine of all betting companies, FansBet purposely advertise in and support fan media, constantly showing commitment to the supporter community.
In its purest terms, the difference with FansBet is they prefer to share the spoils with their customers. FansBet is committed to giving back 50% of net profit to Fan Partners. This revenue can be used to support local fan causes which matter to fans. Whether that’s subsidising travel for fans, improving match day experiences or supporting grassroots football in the local community.
Fansbet have boosted numerous fan causes across the country and are increasingly helping supporters of clubs from non-league to the Premier League.
Working closely alongside fans gives a unique insight into how we can help make the biggest difference to the causes closest to their hearts.
We believe fans are much stronger and louder together and that’s why our partnerships are helping to make a difference and give supporters the voice they truly deserve.
So there you have it. Support your fanzine and help our sellers keep warm by buying a copy tonight, assuming the game goes ahead!
