Cardiff v Arsenal Preview

Looking ahead to this afternoon’s Premier League fixture in the Welsh capital

Cardiff v Arsenal Preview

Ok, so five discussion points ahead of the early afternoon game…

Arsenal on the Road
The Gunners’ woeful away record was the principle reason they failed to return to the top four last season, consequently losing Arsene Wenger his job. Unai Emery can hardly be judged on one away game at Stamford Bridge, but the visit to Cardiff is far more significant. Arsenal really cannot afford to lose this game, due to the quality of the opposition…

Cardiff can’t score
Neil Warnock’s team have played Huddersfield and Bournemouth away, and Newcastle at home. Their first game of the season saw Bournemouth win 2-0, although subsequently, two 0-0s at least demonstrate they can keep a clean sheet. However, that may also reflect the merits of the frontlines they were facing. The one thing Arsenal have been doing under Unai Emery is creating chances. It’s difficult to imagine they will not create more chances than Cardiff.

Lucas Torreira
Although Torreira did not cover himself in glory at Stamford Bridge, this observer has been encouraged by what he has seen, especially the Uruguayan’s ability to play incisive forward passes to colleagues awaiting service in the final third. Given his ability in this side of the game, and indisputable superiority he enjoys over either Xhaka or Guendouzi as a defensive midfielder, it seems a mystery as to why he has not started a match as yet. It would be interesting to see how Arsenal would perform from kick off with Torreira starting. Still, it looks like Unai Emery’s priority is attacking, so we can take nothing for granted until the team-sheet comes out.

Mesut Oz-ill
It’s no secret that last season, Ozil chose to phone in sick if he did not fancy a particular trip to the north. Maybe last weekend, he was genuinely ill, although it is difficult to ignore the view that once he learned he was being dropped, he decided to avoid the ignominy of being on the bench (although he did apparently attend the stadium to watch the game). There is little question that Cardiff will aim to keep Ozil quiet with some physical intimidation early in the game, so Unai Emery might be better bringing him on during the second half once, ideally, a few yellow cards have kerbed the home side’s appetite for destruction. It would be a gamble for Emery to start the number 10. The team announcement at 12.30 will be interesting. Emery has not yet failed to surprise us with his starting eleven, and the biggest question tomorrow revolves around the involvement of the German playmaker.

They Don’t Like It Up ‘Em!
I watched a good portion of the Cardiff v Newcastle game. It’s fair to say that the approach of the home side to the game was uncompromising. If Neil Warnock elected to play in that style against Newcastle, it would be a surprise if there was any respect paid to Emery’s evident preference for possession football. If Mesut Ozil were going to choose a game to be ill, this would have been a much better choice that West Ham at home. The Welsh side will be putting in stiff challenges, and how successful this tactic proves will be highly dependent on how interested the referee is in seeing a game of football.

In Conclusion… The bookies favour Arsenal, no question about that. Our partners Fansbet.com are confident of an away win – the Gunners are 10/19 to take the three points. The draw is 7/2 and a home win a massive 21/4 – over 5/1. For what it’s worth, I can see a repeat of the scoreline from last weekend, and another 3-1 win to Arsenal.

markymark. I think that should be 'Porkyarse/Alexander Swine. VERY well known huge wild 'bore'. A very streaky individual whose hammy posts get rasher and rasher.

Pigs are amongst the most intelligent in the domestic animal kingdom. Animals are organisms like humans with the same rights, to live free from abuse. Religions denigrate animals, and pigs in particular. Be wary of savage and ignorant fascist frothing. Good old pigs, good old Unai, good old Arsenal.

Lyingarse - That’s not Animal farm you are referring to . You’ve obviously suggested that a group are living amongst swine. This is a common usage to denigrate a group and suggest low capacity subhuman behaviour. The whole point of Animal Farm is a satirical tale on dictatorship. Your hate speech was based on branding a group subhuman. You can lie all you want Old Man but your nasty hate speech keeps tumbling out of your mouth.

Pigs as humans. Reference Napoleon and Snowball, George Orwell's 'Animal Farm'. These two answer the third by revealing 'fake news'. Thereby reducing the opposing post as irrelevant.

Badarse’s own words showing what a man of peace and tolerance he is. I’m sure he’ll be proud to show these words to his relatives who read his contributions. I’ve added some thoughts as to his source material “The WOB HQ by contrast was demolished as the swamp it was built in was considered unsuitable for civilized habitation. “- Influenced from drain the swamp , Trumpist ? Nativist, now incorporated into Alt Right movement “When a Housing Inspector visited and in surprise questioned the fact that pigs were living inside with the WOBs “- Influenced by thoughts of Subhuman, Untermensch background Nazis , the Eternal Jew ? Bardarse - “To teach children to hate is negating the role of a father, “ - complete hypocrisy from Badarse (see above)

Note the striking change of tone between Toady's posts at 16.02 and 19.34. Fickle, very fickle... or maybe just 3.5 hours of Buckfast.

"Can the manager see this? Can the manager also teach players to get goalside from set pieces?" TOOAW, you do make me laugh. Can't recall any similar criticism of what the previous manager couldn't see or wouldn't address. I'll start it off with...an effective holding midfielder year after year - feel free to join in.

markymark, yes like I said earlier the two wenger followers with passion trying to worm their way back in and save face with pro Arsenal and Unai posts, kidding no one not even themselves, and that's not hard to do, not a fooking chance, once a wengerite always a wengerite. Come on Arsenal come on Unai.

a win is a win, but he needs to out cech who is a liability with this sweeper keeper system he,s using, xhaka has never been and never will be good enough to play for the arsenal, bellerin cant defend and what more has torreira go to do 2 be in the starting line up he,s pure class.the positives were auba and lacca up front ramsey played well great engine, guendozi has got potential, you can feel the team are enjoying it more under unai, I think we woul have lost this game if inspector clueless was still in charge, onwards and upwards C.O.Y.G

Superb predictions Badarse. I'll happily give you that. 1 nil to the Badarse. I'll try again next game and with Auba and Lac it'll be high scoring again. Keep smiling buddy.

Well I thought the welsh Messi was pretty crap actually, still addicted to those infuriating little pirouettes. However, it was heart in the mouth time whenever Harry the Helmet received the ball & his clumsiness clearly infected those around him. He has to go along with Xahka. On the bright side our little Terrier is a revelation - an intelligent, energetic player always available for a colleague, sees opportunities for interceptions & snuffing out potential danger. Great pass for our winner too. He is a real find & will help the Hair Bear no end once Swiss Tony is ousted. Plenty of work for Dick to do however. Did I detect a note of sarcasm in the site's Gruesome Twosome's postings?

Hi Only One I claim the prize of a Cheesy Dip as my prediction was closer than yours, na-na-na-na-na! Ha ha. An exciting game to watch but always thought we had anothger goal in us. Love the connection between Aub and Lac, you cannot buy that kind of on-field respect. Cech isn't going to learn the sweeper/keeper role...ever! Thought Aaron played especially well, an intelligent performance harnessed to his phenomenal workrate Always a red letter day when the Arsenal win and the Sours lose, well they shan't become Invincible this season.

Superb win today. Unai will guide us to the top 4 without doubt. Questions remain but positive attitude and a few of Sven's signings in the team will ensure that the season isn't lost. A trophy in Dick's first season is guaranteed. Red shirt white sleeves.

AKB/OER want it all sorted in a month but were prepared to let Wenger (who created the mess) carry on for another 22 years. Unai is fresh air already and AFC will take a while to wake up properly for the season. Ten games is a good measure for where this league is going this season. Good to see an Arsenal team battling again irrespective of the opponents and Cardiff are and will be tenacious over the coming months.

Some of the players look just too wengerised to salvage. Monumental task of rebuilding ahead, like trying to turn an oil tanker. JJ, believe the 4-0 prediction was made so he could moan when it wasn't that - as we now see. Again the sort of negative comment from EOR2 that he/she/it would've called anti-Arsenal if coming from the WOR last season - and after an away win at that! Look out for more sniping from EOR1 later. Fickle, very fickle.

Good result well done all, still work to be done especially at the back, but we knew/know that anyway, bad day for the wengerites. Come on Unai.

Early days but we are a shambles at the moment, Cech can't kick, Bellerin can't defend, Xhaka simply the worst midfielder I've seen since David Price, Ozil who ? ,,,,,, so much to sort out for the coach, patience needed ,,,,, like the look of Auba and Laca tho 👍

Playing out from the back is ludicrous. Cech was caught short several times. Can the manager see this? Can the manager also teach players to get goalside from set pieces? Good win though against relegation fodder.

It is that typical EOR AKB fickleness that would think Arsenal at this stage would beat Cardiff by four goals with no reply. Hard fought win decided by Lacazette and good to see an away win. This is more like the Emery side we would be hoping for who could go away to Cardiff and get the three points. Four-nil is that typical arrogance that only comes from a lazy Wengerite.
