NEWS: Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta opens up on his coronavirus experience while analysing summer transfer 'scenarios'

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has been reflecting on the last few weeks after fully recovering from coronavirus

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has opened up on his experience of suffering from coronavirus while also giving an update on the club’s summer transfer plans.

The Gunners boss who was struck down with coronavirus last month - prompting the first cancellation of a domestic match prior to the lockdown - has been reflecting on the last few weeks.

Arteta, 37, fell ill with Covid-19 prior to the Premier League match at Manchester City which was due to take place at the Etihad on March 11, forcing the postponement of the game.

The Premier League’s decision to call off the match was one of the first signs that the deadly virus was taking hold of domestic sports fixtures - before the government announced a far-reaching national lockdown only a matter of days later.

Arteta confirms he has 'completely recovered' from coronavirus

However, the highly-rated Arsenal head coach confirmed he had ‘completely recovered’ from the killer virus which has claimed the lives of nearly 100,000 people around the world so far, including the mother of his good friend and former boss at the Etihad, Pep Guardiola.

Speaking to Sky Sports on Thursday afternoon Arteta took reflected on the situation.

"Either mine wasn't a very strong virus or my immune system was pretty good," Arteta explained. "The same day that we were told that we were at risk because we were in contact with the Olympiakos owner [Evangelos Marinakis] was the exact day when I started to show some symptoms.

"I felt a huge responsibility as I knew the next day we were playing Manchester City. I had a feeling inside of myself that something was wrong. We had to make the point and make it clear. We spoke to the Premier League about bringing the case forward as we knew we could expose ourselves to people.

"I pulled the doctor and the CEO to my house telling them that we had a situation due to my symptoms. We had players that had been in contact so we said the decision was too big for us alone to make.

“We had to communicate this with the Premier League and Manchester City in order to protect everybody. We made the right call."

Arteta reveals Arsenal have 'two or three' summer transfer scenarios

Arteta also revealed Arsenal have ‘two or three’ scenarios regarding their summer transfer window.

With FIFA confirming earlier this week they will allow the summer window to be moved while also recommending player contracts be extended until the season ends.

The north London giants have Dani Ceballos and Cedric Soares on loan and have the option to buy Brazilian defender Pablo Mari.

Arteta also insisted in early March the club has to sit down with captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and get him to sign a new deal.

Speaking to Sky, Arteta added: "I'm planning two or three different scenarios that we can face. Depending on one of those three, we will be able to do more, less or nothing.

"We have to react daily. We don't know what the financial situation is going to be, we don't know the rules, the timing, the window. There are so many things we cannot control at the moment."
