Arsenal defender Konstantinos Mavropanos is attracting attention from the Bundesliga’s big boys after impressive performances in Germany.
The highly-rated centre-back joined Bundesliga 2 club Nurnberg on loan in January – and his consistent displays have earned plaudits ever since, according to Goal and Mailonline.
Athens-born Mavropanos has made 10 starts as part of a backline that has kept three clean sheets during that time – and is said to have five top flight clubs in Germany interested in his services.
Greece U21 international Mavropanos shone in his opening season during Arsene Wenger’s final year at the Emirates, including a stellar display for the Gunners at Old Trafford in April 2018 on his Premier League debut, before injury issues stalled his progress in the intervening period, prior to jetting off to Germany.
Mavropanos started his career at youth side Apollon Smyrni. He then joined Superleague Greece side PAS Giannina in January 2016, prior to putting pen to paper on a five-year deal at the Emirates which runs out in 2023.
The 22-year-old centre-back moved to the German club in a bid for more playing time after featuring just once for the Gunners first team this season - starting the 2-2 Europa League draw with Standard Liege in December - as well as appearing 11 times for Steve Bould's U23 side.
However, Mikel Arteta is keen on building a strong squad which, ideally, Mavropanos would be part of, but a possible lack of playing time could decide the situation for the talented Greek.
With William Saliba set to link-up with the Gunners after his season-long loan spell in France with Saint Etienne ends on June 30, Mavropanos will face a challenge to earn a regular spot in Arteta’s starting XI – and the prospect of joining one of the top sides in Germany could well appeal for the powerful defender.
