Arsenal beat Premier League champions Liverpool 2-1 at the Emirates on Wednesday evening.
First half goals from Alex Lacazette and Reiss Nelson turned the game on its head after Sadio Mane had put the Reds ahead.
Jurgen Klopp's side had their hopes dashed of setting a new points record after they feel to only their second defeat of the season in north London.
The Merseysiders had to triumph in all of their remaining matches to ease past the record of 100 points set by Pep Guardiola's Manchester City two years ago.
They looked set to acheive that target after Mane slotted home from close range on 20 minutes to put Liverpool 1-0 up following a cross from Andy Robertson.
However, Arteta's Gunners turned the form book on its head after a disappointing 2-1 defeat against Spurs at the weekend. The Arsenal head coach made six changes to his side and the decision paid dividends forcing two uncharacteristic errors from the Reds normally solid backline - with Lacazette taking advantage of Virgil van Dijk's disastrous back pass to level 12 minutes later.
Lacazette then turned provider by capitalising on Alisson Becker's poor clearance to provide Nelson with the chance of scoring his first league goal for Arsenal - which he did with aplomb.
The second half saw Arsenal show determination and intent to seal a memorable win as Manchester City loom at Wembley on Saturday.
