Do Spurs play in red? No, so why should Arsenal play in white?

A good day to bury bad news.

With the Premier League fixtures released on Thursday morning you could be forgiven for missing the fact Arsenal unveiled their new away kit.

Their new white away kit.

Yes, I was there in the San Siro on a glorious evening in 2008 when a Gunners side in white beat the reigning Champions League holders AC Milan 2-0.

And yes, I am aware that during the Gunners long and illustrious history the club have occasionally played in white.

But if you're asking me if I like Arsenal playing in white? No chance.

Do Spurs play in red? No. And they never would. So, why should we play in white?

So while the club might be delighted to reveal their new away kit for the 2020/21 season for the men’s, women’s and academy teams - here at the Gooner we aren't so pleased.

Credit where credit is due. I like the new hoe kit - which is already a lucky kit having beaten Chelsea at Wembley to lift the FA Cup.

And yes, last year's adidas home and away kits were sublime, following on from the dreadful efforts by Puma, towards the end of their contract to produce the hallowed strip - by a company that had all but given up.

But it really isn't difficult. Red and white in the traditional manner for the home kit. Royal blue and yellow for the away kit. And then as a designer do whatever you want for the third kit.

So while I'll alway give my full support to the club in any game they play at any level - just as I have done for every single day over the last four decades of support - it doesn't mean I will like the new strip when it will be worn on the pitch for the first time on Saturday, August 22, when face Paris Saint-Germain in the Women’s Champions League quarter-final.

As for the 'blood slashes'. Really?

And please don't get me started on the makrting blurb...

"The shirt unites generations with a design that represents the famous marble halls of Highbury’s iconic East Stand," they gush, adding: "Built in 1936, the facade of the East Stand remains in place after our 2006 move to Emirates Stadium, providing a permanent reminder of The Arsenal’s storied past."

Clearly written by someone who never set foot in Highbury - and if they did then shame on them for such arrant nonsense.

No wonder it was a good day to bury bad news...

The new adidas kit for the 2020/21 season is now available at our flagship Armoury store, Arsenal Direct, adidas.co.uk and selected adidas stores exclusively until Wednesday, August 26.

Arsenal having a white shirt (the original away shirt) is fine by me ditto yellow. However blue, black and green are not arsenal colours and there have been to many of them down the years.

MG has about nailed the reality of it all there. As for the kit, its a typical;l made for TV kit as we see these days isnt it. Pretty awful and over complicated but lets face it, most of the first choice kits are over done and not very nice. Things change of course but all this kit stuff, main kit, 2nd kit and 3rd kit etc etc is just a load of money making bollox fleecing the supporters, particularly the young fans. I would have thought by now that the parents had wised up to what modern football has become. To those who still want to see AFC acting in ways they once did, upholding the clubs traditions (if they ever really did) and so forth, forget it. That boat sailed 14 years ago.

'Storied past'.....?? We sounds like the New York Yankees! Let's face it the rot set in when we (they) took up the Disney cannon which remains a complete and total embarrassment when displayed up against the dignified ('storied' anyone?) club badges associated with other top clubs in England and Europe. Ironically when I first wrote to the club protesting about that design I was told that the new cannon had been adopted to transmit the new 'pan European' identity of the team.... LOL Their trashing of the Arsenal brand is up there alongside the FA's trashing of the FA Cup tradition. All in all very sad and ultimately self-destructive.

Good to see a manager finally trying to sort out the defence by bringing in Georgson a set piece specialist coach who did very well with Brentford.A George sorting out the defence sounds familiar.Things are starting to take shape a decent Goalkeeper,a very good left back and two highly rated centre backs getting specialist coaching.Have I gone back in time?.I am not convinced by our right backs but Soares may prove me wrong.As for the white shirt horrible it looks like a load of dead flies on a windscreen.Good to see Ozil doing something for the club.Hate those pop ups too.

Je suis d'accord Don/Alsace. I think DH was our last former manager who left a unanimously positive impression and who really got to grips with a club that was drifting when he took over. Not dissimilar in some respects to what MA now faces. Yeah that pop up thing is terrible. 6 hipsters on a zoom call appearing to be talking absolute shite...

A bit sad to see Freddie Ljungberg's connection to the club ended today. A dazzling player with an incredible workrate. Scored some crucial goals and he was always in amongst it when lesser clubs got too physical. He also helped bring on many of the young players that helped rescue last season. He inherited a shitshow from UE (who also inherited one from you know who). That cliche about a poisoned chalice was never more apt. I like Arteta's comment about how he was sure their paths would meet again as managers. On another point, although he was also beyond scrutiny as a player, it's staggering that Mr Bould remains a coach at the club. For my money, he bore a small but important responsibility for the last 15 years of mediocrity.

Having seen the away top in the flesh I can confirm it is utterly horrific. I looked across with envy at the Everton away top, which is exactly how The Arsenal one should be. I actually left the adidas shop hanging my head in shame and embarrassment that we our club is wearing what I will call the "Cielo Drive" shirt.

However often we may have played in white before, that's not the point for me. In fact, I've got two problems with it: 1) it's not yellow and blue 2) it looks awful It would be bad enough as a third kit (what exactly is the pint of those, apart from making more money?) but as a second kit it's ridiculous.

Hi Everyone, I am the poster formerly known as Arseneknewbest. After aw finally left the building so to speak, it would no longer have been smugly ironic to carry on with that moniker. That plus a lengthy technical catch 22 meant I couldn't log on for a long time despite continuing to read these pages avidly during the Unai and Freddie eras which were bad but through little or no faults of their own. I'm also feeling slightly more optimistic about the club's future. Plus all those jamee, badarsian and ooaw bawbags seem to have thankfully disappeared. Thanks for thinking of me occasionally Marky and for holding the club so skillfully to account along with Ron, Skg Alsace redshirt whitesleeves etc. MBG and Jjet. A shout out to both of you too. Get yourselves back on here because the next few years will surely be better than the last 15 years. Oh and that white shirt? Reminds me of getting regularly elbowed in the face by centre forwards and the coach forgetting his magic sponge...

Historically we've had many purely white away kits (can't share links but look up 'Arsenal historical kits'). This 'controversy' is a complete non-issue.
