Much-loved former Gunner Ray Parlour has slammed ‘greedy’ Alexis Sanchez - following the Chilean's claim he made a mistake in leaving Arsenal.

Sanchez, who was involved in arguably the worst swap deal in the history of the Premier League after agitating for a transfer during his final season in N5, claimed he wanted to leave Manchester United after just one training session.

Sanchez swapped the Emirates for Old Trafford - with Henrikh Mkhitaryan moving south - after notching 80 goals in 166 matches for Arsenal before joining the Red Devils in January 2018.

In a miserable spell, the Chile international failed to recreate his Arsenal form, scoring a meagre five goals under Jose Mourinho before United lost patience with the temperamental star, sending him on loan to Inter Milan.

The Red Devils then offloaded Sanchez to the San Siro outfit on a permanent deal at the end of last season.

However, Sanchez has insisted he knew it was a mistake to join the Premier League giants after just one training session.

"Sometimes there are things that you don't notice until you arrive," the 31-year-old said in a video on Instagram.

"There was something that didn't add up and didn't seem good.

"It was an attractive prospect for me - when I was little I really liked the club so I ended up getting signed for them," he said. "I wasn't really that informed on what was happening internally.

"I went home after the first day and I said to my family and my agent 'is there no way to break the contract and go back to Arsenal', and they laughed at me.

"The first few months passed and I felt the same. It wasn't very united as a team at that time. Sometimes there are ex-players who have no idea at all about what's going on inside the club - they believe it's your fault."

However, Gunners icon Parlour responded to Sanchez's claim, telling talkSPORT: "I can't believe you'd want to leave a club after just one training session - how does that work?

"You've got to give yourself a chance - it's different surroundings and a completely different way of training than at Arsenal. 

"It shouldn't come down to wages - but he was on £560k a week - and he wants to leave straight away?

“Why is he so greedy then?

“If he really wanted to join Man City, why didn’t he cut his wages down and say, ‘I’ll sign for £250,000-a-week’? Surely he can live on £250,000-a-week?

“He got £560,000-a-week when he went to Manchester United. That’s scary.

“How can you say, as a player, when you turn up to a club you want to leave the next day?

“That’s not right. That mentality should not be in a footballer.

“You should say, ‘it’s Manchester United, one of the biggest clubs in the world, and I’ve got to fight for my position and make sure I try to perform like I did at Arsenal’.

“It might be a different style of football, it might not suit him, but you’ve got to try and win the fans over, the players over – everybody over. And that is what he didn’t do.”
