Arsenal 0-1 Burnley: PLAYER RATINGS as Granit Xhaka is sent off for indiscipline

Arsenal lost 1-0 to Burnley at the Emirates on Sunday evening.

A second half own goal by Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang sealed the victory for the visitors on 58 minutes.

However, the headlines will all be about Granit Xhaka's lack of discipline that saw him sent off.

Xhaka grabbed the throat of Clarets midfielder Ashley Westwood - which meant the Swiss midfielder was given a red card after referee David Coote reviewed the incident on the pitch-side monitor.

"Just like the club, the Gooner is chronically diminished and infected with pernicious commercial bullshit." Have to say, I agree with this. I appreciate the need to turn a penny but the site is becoming harder and harder to read and the 'pop up' ad's are more than just a nuisance. You almost have to hack through them with a machete. And a thorough match report - as gruesome as it would read - as we used to have, is urgently needed.

Have to agree with Kroenkephobe unfortunately, Our new editor seems more intent on making sure that the reader is aware he's a football journalist rather than providing any insight to the goings on at Arsenal. Everything is "from the press box" or "when I was in this presser" or "look at me im at another game in my capacity as a journalist" or "poor me its raining..the life of a footie journalist eh" . We get it, your a journalist, so maybe concentrate on the actual writing rather than the constant reminders of the occupation. Mr Witcher certainly brought an element of class to the gooner which in my own opinion has now been replaced with a journo/social media whore more interested in his own online status then that of the Gooners output.

Don't shoot the messenger they say, but after that shitshow tonight Layth and the utter hopelessness of the club at all levels, I've decided to turn my powers of criticism against this website. Le Grove has covered the pre, during and post fame dissection in gory but empasssioned detail. But your offering is well below par and is more on a level with the 70s version of Shoot magazine. The Gooner used to represent a certain kind of Arsenal fan: a little more erudite than the competition, read and supported by fans who were ready to recognise and offer constructive criticism. There were heavyweight articles and contributions from real Arsenal supporters who had followed the club through thick and times even thinner than this. But now? Just like the club, the Gooner is chronically diminished and infected with pernicious commercial bullshit. As a writer, you should be embarrassed by your output after this game. It's incredibly lightweight and it makes me wonder what your advertisers think. In all honesty, you should probably wind this site down if this is what passes for writing. I genuinely hope this annoys you enough either to write a rebuttal defending the quality of this site, or that you bring a halt to what used to be a vital and stimulating forum for fans. Just like the team, you're going to be battling with Untold Arsenal at the bottom of fanzine ratings unless you up your game. What's it going to be?
