The joy of Aubameyang's hatrick and a complete game against Leeds was quickly pushed out of the mind of Gunners fans when Raheem Sterling stung in the opening moments of the marquee match for Gameweek 25.

Arsenal came up short in what would be a sweet win for Manchester City, 1-0. In what has necome a common theme for the team, inconsistency has plagued Arsenal all season, almost makimg their fans the best bookies for horse racing, given how much they are spot on with their disappointment, week in and week out.

The week started on a high note and lots of promise after a delightful outing against Bielsa's Leeds.

Aubameyang netted his first Arsenal hatttick and looked to have turned a corner on his woes this season. The team showed cutting edge, grit, and a complete game as they rammed Leeds 4-2.

However, at the Etihad, against a streaking Manchester City side, the Gunners were back to their lacklustre worst, with Sterling finding himself unmarked in area for a comfortable header, barely two minutes into the game.

It was not the usual devastating City side that keeps coming in waves, yet it was understandable because against an Arsenal side with an impotent attack, Pep's men instinctively decided to go into cruise control, keeping Arteta's men in their own half for most of the game.

The players themselves looked out of energy and desire, with new acquisition, Martin Odegaard turning in an average display in midfield.

For a team with a lot of creativity in the middle of the park, the turnout was disappointing, and a game which promised firepower, only got more cagey as the minutes died.

Once again, it will be Arteta and his starting eleven in the eye of the fans' and media storm. Opting to play Aubameyang was not the problem, but rather deciding to let him go out solo.

Lacazette has been impressive of late, and Aubameyand showed his class against Leeds, both players have proven time amd again that they work better as a tandem, especially with Lacazette playing centrally and Auba left to rampage on the wing or roaming free around the central man.

Arteta's biggest positive this season has been Saka.

The youngster has been producing with the time given him, making a great case for why he should be a starter, but one bright spark in a team with a lot of experience and youth potential is not enough. Another season that promised so much is once again drawimg to a disappointing close for Arsenal, as the London team is stuck in tenth place and could potentially miss European competitions next season.

Next up for the Gunners is Benfica in the Europa League, before another uphill battle of a weekend fixture at in-form Leicester City.
