Arsenal beat Olympiacos 3-2 on aggregate to progress to the last eight of the Europa League

Arsenal were given a scare by Olympiakos but had enough from the first leg to beat the Greek side on aggregate and reach the Europa League last eight.

Leading 3-1 from the game in Greece, the Gunners were comfortable throughout the first half in London.

Some nerves began to show after Youssef El-Arabi's shot found the net via a deflection off Gabriel to give the visitors hope of repeating last season's shock when they were knocked out by the Greek side in the last 32 via a goal from the same player, who scored in the final minute of extra time at Emirates Stadium.

However, Olympiacos were unable to build on El-Arabi's goal as Arsenal managed the remainder of the tie adequately to progress, helped by a red card shown to Ousseynou Ba for dissent late on.

Arsenal discovered their quarter-final opponents when the draw was made in Switzerland on Friday lunchtime when they were paired against Slavia Prague.

After beating Olympiacos and Benfica in the knockout stages Arteta's side will now face the Czech side on Thursday, April 8 and Thursday, April 15.

The provisional draw for the semi-finals also took place with Arsenal or Slavia Prague paired with Dinamo Zagreb or Unai Emery's Villarreal.

On Thursday evening Slavia Prague inflicted Rangers' first defeat at Ibrox in just over a year to knock the nine-man Scottish champions out of the Europa League.

However, the win was completely overshadowed by Ondrej Kudela racially abusing Glen Kamara while covering his mouth with a hand.

That enraged Rangers' players, with Kamara, Goldson and Bongani Zungu particularly incensed, and manager Steven Gerrard confirmed afterwards that Kamara told him he was racially abused, with other players also having heard the comments.

The draw brings back memories of Arsenal putting on a superb display at the Emirates Stadium in October 2007 as they closed in on the Champions League knockout stages.

Cesc Fabregas's stunning strike put the Gunners ahead after five minutes and David Hubacek's own goal made it 2-0.

Theo Walcott got his first Champions League goal after a goalkeeping error before Alexander Hleb scored one and set up Walcott for his second.

Fabregas finished a fabulous move and substitute Nicklas Bendtner wrapped up Arsenal's best ever home win in Europe.
