Shall We Sing A Song For You: Passionate Gooner Ben Bennett reflects on Leicester and looks towards Watford

As the song goes:

We all follow the Arsenal, over the land and sea, (and Leicester)

We all follow the Arsenal,

On to victory - altogether now!

Everything about that song was right, for every single one of the 3,300 that made the trip to support The Arsenal at Leicester on Saturday, whether it was by car, coach, mini bus, train or plane.

It was great to see a unified fanbase as we cheered the boys on to victory and three massive points, which were thoroughly deserved.

For me it was a 6am alarm call, not quite the 345am it went off previously for the early kick-off at Man City, but I had the same usual broken sleep worrying about sleeping through the alarm and missing my Hastings minibus with a 715am departure time.

After battling through torrential rain, we arrived into Leicester at 11am, parked up with other coaches outside the stadium.

We certainly made ourselves known we were in the city for the 1230 pm kick off as we headed to the packed Counting House for a Two-Pinter, to meet up with many others for a pre-game sing-song and watch the League Cup quarter-final draw.

League Cup draw

Well, we can all say we would of taken that.

League One side Sunderland at home stand in front of us and the semi-finals.

With the match to be played in Christmas week, we certainly didn’t really want the clash to be the other way round. Thankfully, with Christmas only days away, the 600 mile round trip will be made by the Mackems instead.

Inside the King Power

Inside the stadium we went, with more pre game noise on the concourse and inside.

Respectfully everyone in the stadium stood in silence with our red and white cards in tribute to November's forthcoming Remembrance Day. The silence was also made poignant as it also marked the third anniversary of the fatal helicopter disaster involving Leicester’s owner Khun Vichai

Leicester 0-2 Arsenal

As for the game, we were outstanding, starting brilliantly, and that’s not the first time I’ve said that this season.

A good start is something we have lacked over many years - getting out of dressing room and off the starting blocks sharply, particularly for lunch time kick-offs is something that been missing at times.

However, Gabriel headed home after five minutes and ESR cooly slotted home on 18.

I thought the rest of the half we remained organised and well managed but also threatening at the other end.

To top off a great half, Aaron Ramsdale’s magnificent world class save from Maddison’s free kick right on half time was crucial as we went into the break 2-0 - a scoreline that was fully deserved.

For the second half we were once again well disciplined and organised, with Mikel Arteta making the right substitutions at the right times.

We rode the storm for periods - as was to be expected with Leicester being a decent team - but with more quality saves from Ramsdale, we made sure of the three points and a brilliant clean sheet.

An outstanding performance

Make no mistake this was an outstanding performance from all the players.

At full time fans and players rightly ecstatic, this connection is forever growing between us and the team, as We all follow the Arsenal, I like it, I like it, and Ramsdales two song's bellowed out from a joyous away end. Brilliant!

A word on the atmosphere

Regarding the atmosphere, I have to say I thought it was right up there as one of the best away ends for a long time - definitely for a 1230pm kick off.

We were loud, we were proud and we backed all the players and the team for 90 plus minutes, a really together fanbase and all the 3300 played a huge part in cheering us “on to victory”.

'What do you think...' was missing

The team will be lifted through this type of backing, they don’t want to hear, “What do you think of Tottenham” constantly like at the Emirates.

Notably I didn’t hear it at all during the game on Saturday and it’s a big difference in the feel good atmosphere, as all the fans wanted to do was back the team.

Overall a top away day and if we can top that sort of performance and atmosphere at Anfield in a few weeks then we really are going places again.

Watford next up

Next up, Watford at the Emirates on Sunday, let’s be the twelfth man and get behind the players and roar the team onto three more huge points going into the international break, maintain momentum and then on to some more trickier tests.

Keep the faith, we, as a Football club are heading in the right direction again. Come on The Arsenal!
