Arsenal vs Sunderland League Cup last eight preview ahead of the Emirates tie with the Mackems

Arsenal vs Sunderland: Carabao Cup quarter-final preview

Can Arsenal lift the League Cup for only the third time in our history? They will have to beat Sunderland first

Arsenal could be missing Japanese defensive sensation Takehiro Tomiyasu for the Carabao Cup quarter-final tie against Sunderland at the Emirates on Tuesday evening.

The former Bologna defender could be absent due to a muscle injury he picked up during the tremendous 4-1 victory over Leeds at Elland Road at the weekend, that saw Mikel Arteta's Gunners consolidate fourth spot in the Premier League.

The Gunners will be keen to make progress in League Cup this evening, having only won it twice, in 1987 and 1993.

However, the North Londoners will be missing defender Pablo Mari and midfielder Albert Sambi Lokonga after the pair tested positive for Covid.

Despite a run of three league wins on the bounce, Arsenal will be wary of their visitors from Wearside as Sunderland manager Lee Johnson's side arrive seven games unbeaten in League One.

Johnson revealed an unnamed Mackem player returned a positive Covid test on Monday and will miss the clash.

On-loan forward Leon Dajaku is doubtful after suffering a knock at the weekend.
