Arsenal have been drawn to host Liverpool in the first leg of the Carabao Cup semi-finals in the new year.

Mikel Arteta’s Gunners will face the Reds at the Emirates in the week commencing January 3, with the away leg set to take place in the week commencing January 10.

Arsenal reached the last four after a resounding 5-1 victory over Sunderland to make a strong semi-final line-up, with the other tie featuring Chelsea vs Spurs.

Speaking after the buoyant Gunners beat their League One visitors from Wearside this week, boss Arteta: "I’m most proud of the atmosphere, the environment and the culture we have around the club and the sense of unity that we have from everybody who works at the club and the sense of unity that we have with our supporters that I think has come a long, long way."

Arsenal reached the last four after beating West Bromwich Albion, AFC Wimbledon, Leeds United and Sunderland, top scoring in the competition so far, netting 16 goals.

The Carabao Cup quarte-final also saw Charlie Patino becoming the 886th player to represent The Arsenal – with a fairytale debut. Within 10 minutes of coming on to make his bow, the 18-year-old scored his first senior goal after converting Nicolas Pepe's cross. 

Arteta added: "Charlie is with us more and more in training sessions.“

His first competitive match which was a beautiful day for him and everybody involved in the club and we’ll go slowly from there." 

Arsenal are set to travel to East Anglia to take on struggling Norwich City on Boxing Day, prior to hosting Wolves a mere 48 hours later, ahead of their New Years Day clash with Manchester City in north London.
