Ed’s note – Bit of a digest sort of offering for you today. Think Arsenal News Review without the mentions of Caroline’s gap year trip and that time I interviewed Rod Stewart and the Faces back in the early 1970s (cool guy Rod etc etc)…

How about a testimonial for Gary Lewin?

Gary Lewin looks fairly certain to be leaving Arsenal as the FA clearly want him to join the national squad on a full-time basis.

Gary is an Arsenal legend having joined the club as an apprentice keeper back in 1980. At age 19 he returned to the Gunners as a physio having spent a year at Barnet and by 1986 he had already worked his way up to being full-time first team physio. He has racked up well over 1000 games in this position, a milestone he reached back in December 2004. Quite uniquely, so far as I’m aware, Gary must surely the only physio at any football ground, home or away, who can walk around the perimeter having attended an injury with the tune of his own song being chanted by the attendant Gooners.

His cousin Colin Lewin is currently Arsenal’s assistant physio and has been with us since 1995. Now as very recently Neil Reynolds, previously the number one physio at Norwich, has been employed as our new assistant, one might assume that Colin may well step up to take the lead role. Nothing has been confirmed by the Club as yet but obviously either Gary or Colin will be going or they wouldn’t have employed Neil. Unless of course the additional physio has been employed to work exclusively on both Rosicknote and Limping Van Persie next season.

None of the above is any big deal or really even newsworthy to the average fan - but it just got me thinking - if Gary is to go – isn’t he far more worthy of a Testimonial match than any of the overpaid megastars who’ve had them? So how about it Ken?

Freelance Journo Urgently Needs Arsenal Fans!

I’m a freelance journalist and I’m looking for passionate Arsenal fans to help me with some research for a book I’m compiling on the club.

I am looking to contact real fans who can tell me in an instant who the Gunners’ greatest players and managers have been. They should be able to pick out the best game from the last 100 years or the most significant goal.

After consolidating the opinions of as many fans as I can possibly reach the resulting book – to be published in September - will hopefully be the definitive fans’ guide to Arsenal’s all time greats.

Anyone who would like to be a part of this book can contact me at [email protected]
