Arsenal FC – the Most Important Transfers Before the New Season

Arsenal performed incredibly in the 2022/23 season.

They held the first position for most of the English Premier League, only to fumble in the last month-or-so, and give up the lead to Manchester City. And though they still earned themselves the silver medal, many of the Gunnars’ fans were left frustrated.

However, Arsenal seems to be revving up for the new season. They’ve made some notable changes to the lineup, transferred some excellent players in, and have made statements claiming that they are gunning for that gold.

Certainly, the betting shops agree. According to some of the popular UK betting sites, Arsenal is currently one of the favorites to win the Premier League. Their biggest rivals for the title remain Manchester City, with United and Tottenham Hotspur also aching for a chance at the title.

Arsenal’s Transfers

The Gunners have certainly had quite a bit of luck with the transfers this season. They’ve snatched some excellent players during the transfers, and it would seem that they are not done yet. For those interested in the Gunners transfers this season, you’ve come to the right place.

In this article, we are going to discuss the three newcomers to the team, talk about the players who departed, and we also might go down memory lane, looking at some of Arsenal’s greatest transfers of all time. Without further ado, let us delve into the meat and potatoes of this article.

The Ins

It is only fair that we start with the Ins, as they are what most Gunnars fans are interested in. Nine players are joining the team this year, with six returning from loan, and three being completely new. Arsenal managed to snatch up three promising young talents this year round. Two of them came from other Premier League clubs, and one is joining us from Ajax. So, let us have a look at the promising players that Arsenal drafted in 2023.

Declan Rice

Declan Rice is an English player, who began his career playing for West Ham United at the age of 16. His impressive skill earned him several “Player of the Year Awards,” including most recently in 2023. Rice played for the English team that ended up as runner ups in the 2020 UEFA European Championship, which is quite an achievement for someone so young.

An impressive defensive midfielder, Declan Rice has established himself as a key first-team player. He has served as captain, and earned his team the “team of the season award.” Arsenal reportedly paid the highest transfer fee in history, surpassing Jack Graelish’s 100,000 Pound move to Manchester City.

The young player has said he is looking forward to a future with the Gunnars, and many of Arsenal’s fans seem to agree. Declan Rice certainly has a bright future with the club.

Kai Havertz

The young German player began his football career in Bayer Leverkusen. However, it is with Chelsea that his name came to prominence. From 2020 to 2023, he helped Chelsea win the UEFA Champions League, the Super Cup, and the FIFA Club World Cup.

On the personal level, he has won several awards and honors, including the Bundesliga Player of the Month Award. Havertz has also garnered international experience, playing at the 2022 World Cup on the side of the German team.

A talented attacking midfielder, we are certain that his skills will continue to flourish in his tenure with the Gunnars. He is technically gifted, proficient with both feet, and has been favorably compared to some of the best players in German football history.

Jurrien Timber

Joining Arsenal from the Netherlands, Jurrien Timber has had an impressive career playing with Ajax, one of the best Dutch clubs today. A competent right-back, Timber has helped the team win two Eredivisie titles, as well as the KNVB Cup in 2020-21.

In his own right, he has been named Player of the Year on several occasions, and has won the Talent of the Month award numerous times throughout 2021. His contributions to Ajax can’t be denied, and many of the Gunnars’ fans are hoping he will bring some fire to the Arsenal.

Apart from these three, Arsenal also has six returning players, who were out on loan this past season. We won’t delve too much into their playstyles and histories, as most Arsenal fans are probably familiar with them. However, it might interest you to check out the list below, if you are curious about who they are:

The Outs

Now that we’ve looked at the newcomers, it is time to go over the departures, of which there are three this season. First of all, Pablo Mari has departed for the Italian club, Monza. The 29-year-old player was loaned out to the Serie A club this past year, and seems to have been in high demand by the Italian club, as they were willing to pay 4.9 million Euros to have him back.

Arsenal has also said their goodbyes to Granit Xhaka. The Swiss player has left the Emirate Stadium, after signing a 15 million Euro deal with the German club Bayer Leverkusen. Xhaka is a proficient player who has done quite a good job captaining the Swiss national team. Certainly, he will be missed.

Lastly, Ainsley Maitland-Niles is also leaving the club. The player has neither been bought nor loaned out. His contract simply expired, and Arsenal announced that they would not be renewing it for the foreseeable future.

Final Thoughts

Arsenal is gunning for the English Premier League title in 2023/24. The fans are all revved up, the players are hungry for the title, and the management is excited for the future. Sportsbooks are certainly stacking the odds in Arsenal’s favor as well.

They have lost some quality players, like Granit Xhaka in the transfers. However, they’ve gained incredible talent as well. Declan Rice and Kai Havertz are, of course, the standouts. However, Jurrien Timber is also an excellent player, who has earned quite a reputation.

There also seem to be news regarding more transfers to come. We can only wait patiently to see the talent that Arsenal brings into the fold. For now, however, we are happy with what they have.
