Read how Arsenal's loanees have fared since the start of 2023 as Foxy's Loan Watch returns
Monday:
Harry Clarke played 90 minutes for Stoke for the second time in a row. He played further up the pitch than usual, making nine passes into the final third as they were beaten 1-0 by Preston; as Auston Trusty kept his streak of playing every minute in Birmingham’s Championship campaign, adding an assist to his honours, yet losing 3-1. Over in the mainland, Nuno Tavares scored his second goal in two games, before being sent off (after VAR determined he had made a reckless and unnecessary tackle) and taunting the fans Theo Walcott-style.
Wednesday:
Rúnar Alex Rúnarsson conceded four goals in a league fixture against Kas?mpa?a, three goals that he should’ve saved, including one from a free kick. Ainsley Maitland-Niles was an unused substitute in Southampton’s loss to Nottingham Forest, whilst Marcelo Flores was not substituted on against Atletico Madrid in a Copa Del Rey RO32 loss. In Italy, Pablo Marí returned as a substitute in the second half against Fiorentina, his first professional game since he was victim of a stabbing in October.
Back in England, Ovie Ejeheri played 90 minutes in net as Chelmsford made it through to the Fourth Round of the FA Trophy (after the match was twice postponed). Meanwhile, Miguel Azeez was recalled from his loan in Ibiza and has since gone out to Wigan Athletic for the season.
Friday:
Nikolaj Möller failed to make an impact after he was subbed on at half time in FC Den Bosch’s 4-1 loss to Jong FC Utrecht. Brooke Norton-Cuffy was recalled from his loan at Rotherham United and was immediately sent out to Coventry City where he will stay until the end of the season.
Saturday:
Mika Biereth played 70 minutes in a goalless draw with SC Heerenveen, his first start for the club. And, Ovie Ejeheri played his penultimate game for the Clarets, but couldn’t add to his 12 clean sheets, conceding once as they lost to Chippenham. Alex Kirk kept a clean sheet as Ayr beat Hamilton Academical 1-0; whilst Marcelo Flores was an unused substitute for the second game in a row as Oviedo were beaten in Andorra.
Arthur Okonkwo kept his 10th clean sheet for the Railwaymen in a goalless draw with Gillingham as Charlie Patino played 68th minutes in Blackpool’s 4-1 win against Premier League outfit Nottingham Forest, controlling the midfield with pinpoint passing and long through balls.
Also, Pablo Marí played the full match as Monza drew with Inter, his first 90 minutes since October. Ainsley Maitland-Niles played 90 minutes as Southampton edged past Crystal Palace into the fourth round. Tim Akinola played 87 minutes in a 6 goal draw with Chesterfield
Sunday:
Harry Clarke made three starts in a row for Stoke as they cruised through the third round of the FA Cup, helped by two Hartlepool own goals. Clarke had a part to play in Pools second own goal, crossing the ball into the box immediately before the deflection bounced awkwardly into the net. Omar Rekik was benched for Sparta as they drew 0-0 with PSV in their first game of the season. Rekik has played 17 minutes in total for Sparta.
