Arsenal Looking For More Firepower As Nketiah Move Nears

Arsenal's season will kick off at 3 pm on Saturday, August 17th. The home tie against Wolves will give Arteta the opportunity to get off to a good start in this year's Premier title campaign.

Last season's winners, Manchester City, are still the bookie's favourites with Arsenal narrowly behind. There is then a relatively big jump to Liverpool, Manchester United, and Tottenham as contenders.

However, Arsenal fans could see the top licensed UK betting sites cut their title odds even further if they can add, what many believe to be, the final piece of the puzzle.

Despite Gabriel Jesus looking sharp in preseason, there are still question marks over his long-term fitness and goalscoring. In his 27 Premier League appearances last season, Jesus contributed with 4 goals and 5 assists. This worked out at a goal every 371 minutes.

For a team pushing Manchester City for the title, this is not the numbers Arsenal will be hoping for from their main striker. Of course, other factors have to be considered, including injuries that have hampered his career.

Kai Havertz has filled in up front and had a decent return of 13 goals and 7 assists from 37 appearances from midfield and attack.

With the quality of Saka, Martinelli, and Trossard, if Arsenal can find a goalscoring forward they would be in with an even better chance of finally wrestling the title from Man City.

Eddie Nketiah looks like he will be following Emile Smith-Rowe out the door having never quite forced his way into the first team for an extended period. It looks like a move to Marseille is on the cards for the 25-year-old forward, and this would free up even more transfer funds for Arteta.

The gunners are still holding on for a bid of around £30 million having rejected Marseille’s approaches so far, but the potential move for a star forward could facilitate this move.

Many thought that Arsenal would move for want-away striker Ivan Tony who has just one year left on his contract at the West London club. Brentford don't want to risk losing their England international for nothing, but news that record-signing Igor Thiago has suffered an injury could change things.

However, it seems that despite Toney being a proven Premier League goalscorer, he doesn't tick the right boxes to fit into Arteta's team.

Newcastle striker Alexander Isak was also linked with the Magpies trying to meet financial fair play rules, but the talented striker will be staying up north. One player who is being heavily linked with a move down south to Arsenal is Manchester City’s Argentinian forward Julian Alvarez.

The diminutive forward joined Manchester City from River Plate for a deal worth around £14 million. The deal saw him stay at River Plate on loan before moving to Manchester.

At just 24 years of age, he already has 36 caps for Argentina and has a World Cup winners medal. The versatile forward can fit in anywhere in attack and even deputised for the injured Kevin De Bruyne in an advanced midfield position.

However, with De Bruyne fit and firing and Erling Haaland's goal-scoring ability smashing records, Alvarez is said to be considering his future at a club that can guarantee more first-team football.

The bad news for Arsenal is that a player of this quality will have a host of Europe's top clubs chasing him. PSG and Atletico Madrid are being heavily linked with him, while Arsenal face competition from fellow Londoners Chelsea.

Reports of bids are unclear at present, but it is expected that a deal of between £60-£70 million could prize the exciting asset from Guardiola's City. Pep has been vocal about wanting to keep the player, and rumours about De Bruyne potentially moving to Saudi Arabia could help.

Alvarez has appeared in the Premier League 67 times for Manchester City, scoring 20 and getting 10 assists. This is a great return for a player who has been shifted about into different positions and has been used more as a squad player since his move.

His Champions League stats are even better, registering 8 goals and 4 assists in just 17 appearances. It is these stats, his current ability, his potential, and his versatility that make him a top target for Arteta.

With just under two weeks until the season begins, Arteta will be hopeful that he can add to the permanent signing of David Raya and the defensive addition of Riccardo Calafiori from Bologna. One other attacking player who could move to Arsenal before the transfer deadline day is Wolves' Pedro Neto.

The Portuguese winger has also been linked with a move to rivals Tottenham, and it is expected that an offer of around £60 million could be enough.

Arteta is building a solid squad that has come close for the last two seasons, and adding more quality could make the crucial difference between another second-place finish, and winning.

Arsenal fans who are confident that the team will be ready for the challenge this season will have a great choice of land-based, crypto gambling, and online sportsbooks to find the best prices for their team.
