Arsenal have been looking to add a third signing to their ranks this January with Moises Caicedo the latest player on the club’s radar.
A bid in the region of £60m has reportedly been rejected by Brighton for their midfielder, who has impressed this season on the south coast.
It’s not been made clear as to whether Arsenal will go in with a second offer for the central midfielder, who is also a point of interest for Chelsea.
Brighton have remained poised in clubs’ interest of Caicedo, insisting that the player is not for sale this January.
The Seagulls bought the Ecuadorian for just £4.5m only two years ago, and his rise has been magnificent for a player of just 21-years-old in such a tough position to play in the Premier League.
It’s no secret as to why Arsenal are interested in Caicedo – who has just over two years left on his contract at Brighton – as it’s always been evident that the Gunners would look for midfield cover this transfer window.
Mikel Arteta spoke to the media yesterday and explained his desire for the club to sign a new midfielder for depth following the injury to Mohamed Elneny.
“We need more cover in midfield, ideally if we can. But this market is complicated.”
Thomas Partey and Granit Xhaka have been integral to Arsenal’s form this season, the anxiety lies as to where Arteta would turn should one of them get injured.
With deadline day fast approaching and many games to go, only time will tell if the Gunners can get the business sealed in time.
