Arsenal’s Biggest and Best Wins of the 2022-23 Season So Far

Arsenal fans still have a lot to be happy about right now.

The club has a real shot at the Premier League for the first time since 2015-16 when the Gunners finished second to Leicester City. Of course, it’s by no means a done deal yet, but many fans and pundits believe the club has a strong chance of lifting the trophy this season.

So even though Manchester City remain the favourite, many Arsenal fans are backing their team and taking advantage of the betting promotions offered by bookies that let them claim free bets and other bonuses on their wagers while they do it.

There are still several weeks of the Premier League season remaining and only someone with a crystal ball can tell you what’s going to happen. But in the meantime, it’s a good idea to remind ourselves of how we got here in the first place and look back at some of Arsenal’s biggest and best wins of the season.

2-0 Crystal Palace - Friday 5th August

The Gunners started the 2022-23 season as they intended to go on with a 2-0 victory away at Crystal Palace. The match started off well with a dominant first half and an attempt at goal by Gabriel Jesus in only the third minute almost putting Arsenal ahead early on.

This was followed up with another close one by newcomer Oleksandr Zinchenko, whose shot was impressively deflected by Vicente Guaita. Travelling fans wouldn’t have long to wait, however, as Gabriel Martinelli bagged a goal in the 20th minute.

A scrappy second half ensued with three yellow cards in just 20 minutes. Saka sealed the deal, however, launching a cross into the box that bounced off Palace’s Marc Guehi to take the Gunners 2-0 up.

3-1 Tottenham Hotspur - Saturday 1st October

Arsenal continued picking up victory after victory throughout August, though there was a fumble when the Gunners travelled north to face Manchester United at Old Trafford. This didn’t throw them off their stride though, so when the club hosted London rivals Tottenham Hotspur at the beginning of October, they were back to winning ways.

It was another strong performance that saw goals from start to finish, starting with a 20th-minute shot from Partey and then backed up with a second from Jesus shortly after the start of the second half.

Spurs’ Emerson Royal was sent off in the 62nd minute all but confirming their fate, and a third goal from Xhaka five minutes later sealed the deal.

5-0 Nottingham Forest - Sunday 30th October

As a recently-promoted club that’s at risk of relegation, Nottingham Forest was never going to be a major challenge for Arsenal, but few predicted the 5-0 thrashing that happened.

Five was to be the lucky number for the Gunners on that day as this goal-tastic extravaganza began in the fifth minute with a shot from Martinelli breezing past Dean Henderson.

The game went a little quiet for the rest of the first half, but then the floodgates opened with goals in the 49th, 52nd, and 57th minutes, two from Nelson, and the third from Partey. A final one made it into Forest’s net in the 78th minute thanks to the efforts of Ødegaard in what was an exhilarating match.

3-2 Manchester United - Sunday 22nd January

The Gunners had unfinished business when they hosted Manchester United in late January. The game didn’t get off to a great start, however, with Marcus Rashford drawing first blood in the 17th minute thanks to an assist from Bruno Fernandes.

Nketiah quickly found an answer to this, managing to claim Arsenal’s first goal in the 24th minute. Following half time, Saka put the Gunners ahead in the 53rd minute, but United countered at the feet of Martinez who landed a goal in the 59th minute.

Nketiah became the saviour of the day as the clock ticked down. He scored a 90th-minute goal from a close-range shot that needed VAR intervention to check its legality. This was one of the sweetest victories of the season so far and one Gunners fans will be hoping to repeat the next time the club faces the other Manchester team at the end of April.
