Arsenal's Chances of Winning the English Premier League

Mikel Arteta has defied the odds to restore hope to the Emirates.

Today, he is tipped to be the manager who will finally bring home the Premier League title after the successful era of Arsene Wenger. Currently, Arsenal is at the top of the table with an eight points lead. They have remained at the peak for the longest run in many years, and there is growing belief among the fans that this could be the year of glory.

Arsenal fans, not only from the UK but also Ireland and around the globe are vouching for the team to win the coveted title. However, the win is not guaranteed, as Manchester City is also fighting to retain its position as EPL champions. Going by the odds across multiple Irish bookmakers, Arsenal is favorite to win most matches against. While it is no doubt that the team will remain at the top position on the table,  it is still early to say with certainty that they will be crowned champions.

Reasons for Exemplary Performance this Season

Since the departure of Arsene Wenger, Arsenal has struggled under various managers. They have failed to qualify for the Champions League since the 2016/2017 season. Since the arrival of Mikel Arteta, many things have changed, and if the team misses out on the Premier League title, there is every possibility that at least they will finish in the top four.

The first reason why Arsenal are doing better than other teams is a large number of young players. This is an advantage because they are full of energy and are not susceptible to injuries. Since the start of the season, Arteta has maintained his first eleven players, with just less than three losses due to injury. It is also easy to motivate them because they are hungry for the title, unlike old players who have achieved almost everything. Youthful players are easy to manage, and coach Mikel Arteta does not have to deal with too much ego.

The long stay without the title is another key motivating factor for players. There is a massive atmosphere in the emirates among the fans as well. During Arsenal home games, you will notice all-out support for the team. A combination of player ambitions and the desire by fans generates the belief that, finally, the team will emerge top at the end of the season. In one of the press conferences, Pep Guardiola, a rival Manchester City manager, noted that the hunger amongst Arsenal players is a major driving force that has put the team ahead.

Likely Competition

While the excitement is inevitable, it is not over until it is over. The Premier League is undoubtedly the toughest club championship in the world, and you can never write off any possibility. Dating back to the 2011/12 season, the title was decided at the last minute. Manchester United had won their game and relied on Manchester to lose or draw, but the last-gasp goal by Sergio Aguero made the difference, crushing the hopes of Manchester United fans in the last minute of additional time.

While Arsenal has a five-point lead with a game in hand, they should not overlook Manchester City's potential. This team has a menacing squad depth with top-class players on the bench. It also boasts one of the best managers in world football. There are more than ten games to play, and they could be enough to change any team's fortunes. Manchester United have also found its form under new manager Eric Ten Hag, and they are surging forward with the hope of toppling the leaders.
