The transfer window slammed shut last night shortly after Arsenal announced the signing of their latest recruit.

The Gunners captured the signature of former Chelsea midfielder Jorginho in a quick fire signing on deadline day in a deal lasting 18 months for a fee of around £12m.

The midfielder had caught the eye of Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta, claiming that the Spaniard was a big influence in him signing for the Gunners.

Jorginho spoke to the club media for the first time since making the swap to north London:

“I’m very excited for this new challenge, and I just can’t wait to be on the pitch to be honest! Everything has happened so fast. I was a bit surprised, but I took the opportunity of this amazing challenge.”

The 31-year-old was a catalyst in Chelsea’s midfield which Arsenal had seen first-hand in recent fixtures, the Italian international spoke on his impressions of his new club after playing against Arsenal in Chelsea’s 0-1 defeat this season.

“It was tough, it was a hard time! Even in pre-season we had a friendly match, and I could feel and see that Arsenal would do very well this season. So, when we faced each other again at Stamford Bridge, it wasn’t a surprise for me at all.”

The Brazilian born midfielder signed for Chelsea from Napoli back in 2018, and has a lot of career experience under his belt playing at the highest level, he admitted of his delighted to join Arsenal and his desire to achieve under Mikel Arteta.

“It’s an important shirt. It’s an amazing club, a big one, and I’m really excited and happy to be here. I’ll try to just bring positive energy, hard work and my experience to help the team. All I can promise is that I’m going to give my all to represent this club.”

It’s an unexpected but important signing for Arsenal who announced the long-term injury of midfielder Mohamed Elneny yesterday. Jorginho brings depth in midfield and as mentioned, a heap of experience to the side.
