Fabio Vieira and Jurrien Timber are doubts for the hosts, who will also be with Japan international Takehiro Tomiyasu and Kieran Tierney due to injuries.

New £42m summer singing Riccardo Calafiori is set to start on the bench again, after coming on as substitute for his first bow in rred and white during the 2-0 stroll in the park against Lyon last weekend.

While talented teenagers Ethan Nwaneri and Myles Lewis-Skelly have featured during an excellent pre-season for the Gunners, including the summer tour of the United States. 

Arsenal’s starting XI will be similar to last term, with either Gabriel Jesus or Kai Havertz set to start up front following the lack of new arrivals in the centre-forward slot.

While Jorginho or Thomas Partey vie to partner Declan Rice in central midfield.

Wolves

Wolves are mainly injury free. For sale Daniel Podence has a calf issue, and is not expected to feature, nor will Goncalo Guedes. While Hugo Bueno has joined Feyenoord on loan.

Wolves impressed many seasoned observers last season by showing fine form under Gary O’Neil before fading towards the end of the campaign.
