Arsenal took a point in Turin as they continued their campaign in the ‘Group of Death’ in this season’s UEFA Women’s Champions League.

It was a tale of two Dutch forwards in the 1-1 draw, with Lineth Beerensteyn finishing past Manu Zinsberger after getting in behind the Arsenal defence seven minutes into the second half before Vivianne Miedema equalised just after the hour mark.

Arsenal’s resources have been stretched in recent weeks and will be harmed even more with the ACL injury sustained by Beth Mead in the defeat to Manchester United on Saturday. The Gunners are still awaiting the return of their first choice centre backs, as well as captain Kim Little, with home games against Juventus Lyon still to come before the end of the year.

Juventus reached the quarter finals for the first time in last season’s Champions League and know they have their work cut out to progress out of Group C this time around. Joe Montemurro came up against his Arsenal successor Jonas Eidevall and would have been the happier of the two bosses to come away with a point in a game which Arsenal dominated.

Vivianne Miedema is a player for the big stage and despite being in and out of the side recently, Arsenal’s all-time top scorer stepped up on a chilly night in Italy, heading the ball home from Frida Maanum’s corner before providing a constant threat in the closing stages.

Caitlin Foord missed a gilt-edged opportunity in the final moments of injury time, bearing down on the Juventus goal but her touch was just too heavy and the ball could be smothered by a grateful Peyraud-Magnin.

Arsenal now have over a week until their next fixture, as the Gunners welcome Everton to Meadow Park in the WSL next Saturday.

The final two home Champions League games both take place at the Emirates next month as the Men’s World Cup continues, a perfect opportunity to get your Arsenal fix and support the Gunners against some of the best sides in Europe.
