Arsenal Women were inspired by Arsenal men's 6-0 thrashing of Sheffield United as the Gunners put four goals past a sorry Aston Villa in the first half of their Conti Cup semi-final win.

Stina Blackstenius netted a hat-trick, with Frida Maanum scoring the goal of the game and picking up an assist.

Midfielder Lia Walti said after the 4-0 win that she had watched Monday night's game with her teammates, and Jonas Eidevall certainly saw similarities between Mikel Arteta's side's win and his one.

Eidevall said: "Not as a structured thing, but when we speak about things and how we play, the way they play and the way they suffocated them for the first 15 minutes and how brave they were in their positioning, I think that is the same thing we speak about and look what happens when you get a complete hit with that way of playing.

"That definitely inspired us with our players today and it’s such a nice thing when you speak about a one club mentality and being able to take inspiration."
