Jonas Eidevall’s Arsenal side will welcome North London rivals Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday afternoon for a historic North London derby in front of over 40,000 fans at the Emirates Stadium.

With the visit of Tottenham coming up this weekend, all the latest Arsenal updates, stats and live scores can be found via the Flashscore app or website. It was the perfect start to the Women’s Super League season for Arsenal. Steamrolling a hapless Brighton & Hove Albion side by four goals to nil, goals from Kim Little, Stina Blacksteniusand Beth Mead helped the Gunners to a comfortable victory.

As she had done for England during their summer European Championship victory, it was Mead at the heart of things against Brighton.

The Euro 2022 Player of the Tournament netted twice on Friday evening, while also setting up Blacksteniusfor her first-half goal. However, despite the comfortable victory, a controversial sending off inside the first 10 minutes changed for the game for both sides, with Brighton’s Emma Kullbergseeing red for an alleged trip on Blackstenius.

While replays suggested the Arsenal forward was offside in the build-up, further inspection post-match also revealed there was no contact, with the Gunners having been handed a helping hand on opening night.

It was just one of a number of dubious refereeing decisions across the opening weekend of WSL action, with reigning champions Chelsea being denied a clear onside goal against newbies Liverpool.

Chelsea, who Arsenal finished second behind in the table last season, went on to lose 2-1 against the Reds, meaning Eidevall’sGunners enter the weekend in firstposition. And they’ll get a great chance to maintain their position in top spot this weekend, when North London rivals Tottenham visit the Emirates on Saturday afternoon.

Over 40,000 fans are expectedto be inside the Emirates this weekend, with history suggesting those of an Arsenal persuasion will be in for an enjoyable afternoon.

Never before in WSL history have Arsenal lost to Tottenham, with their record across all fixtures also making for an enjoyable read. Of the eight times these two have met, Arsenal have maintained their unbeaten record in all eight, including an equally historic encounter at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in November 2019. Triumphing 2-0 that day, a crowd of 38,262 watched along at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium –a figure that broke the record attendance for a WSL match.

Of course, this weekend’s clash at the Emirates is set to smash that record, with a reported 40,000 tickets having already been sold. How Eidevall’steam cope with the added pressure remains to be seen, but they do enter Saturday’s game as heavy favourites.

Yet another victory in the North London derby is on the cards for Arsenal, as the Gunners continue their pursuit of a first WSL title win since 2018/19.
