The BBC have announced they will show highlights of the Champions League this season.

For the next three years, on the Wednesday of Champions League matchweeks, there will be a highlights show on BBC One at 1040pm.

Mikel Arteta's Arsenal side qualified for their 20th appearance at the top table of European football after finishing last term as runners-up to Manchester City.

The Gunners will find out who they play when the draw for the group stages of the Champions League takes place on August 29.

The BBC new deal starts with a bonus show tonight, Wednesday, 14 August, by screening the Super Cup between Real Madrid and Atalanta.

On Wednesday evenings during Champions League weeks highlights will also be available on the BBC Sport website from 10pm.

There will also be clips online and on social media.

BBC Radio 5 Live will still have live commentary of selected Champions League games this season, while TNT Sport and Amazon Prime Video will show the games live in the UK.

Amazon have first pick of the Tuesday games - 17 matches in total - with all the other matches shown on TNT.

Champions League explained

The Champions League will have more rounds of fixtures than ever - 17 in total, which includes eight rounds of group games.

The opening stages will run from September 17 through until January 29 - with an extra round before the last 16 starts.

The tournament is growing from 32 to 36 teams with all teams contained in a single table.

The top eight will go through to the last 16, while teams from ninth to 24th go into a new play-off round.

That means the BBC will have highlights of the Premier League, Champions League and FA Cup this season.
