Matt Turner – did no harm to his reputation with another shut-out, genuinely emerging as a second-choice selection we can rely upon in the cup games, with further hints to being decent back-up to Ramsdale if that occurs over a short period of time. Foot work, needs work – but that can only come with game time. 8/10
Ben White – so accomplished in his new role he’s now showing us tricks and flicks. Didn’t need to exert himself too much, and that’s a good thing. Getting in good positions, others should trust him more on those overlaps, but that’s not his fault. 7.5/10
William Saliba – a comfortable evening in a game where coming away unscathed was probably the biggest objective. 7/10
Rob Holding – this is his time to shine and although he didn’t add to his goal from the reverse fixture, he had another solid night. 7.5/10
Kieran Tierney – an important step was to see him looking fully fit and mobile. Great to see him charging forward and joining attacks. 7/10
Sambi Lokonga – great work for the goal, he’s going to have to use these games to come on significantly to stake a claim, and from what we’ve seen of Arteta’s development of others we should look forward to that. 7.5/10
Fabio Vieira – possibly crowded out a little by Odegaard and found it hard to shine as much as he’s done in other cameos this season. 6/10
Bukayo Saka – a third goal in five days, he just seems to take it all in his stride. Intelligent play and didn’t push too hard (and didn’t have to) knowing more important matches are coming in the league. 7.5/10
Martin Odegaard – obviously meant a lot to him, leading his team out back in his homeland. Usual assured touches of the football throughout. 7.5/10
Reiss Nelson – will take him a while to get up to speed with starting matches and proving he can be part of this squad, he’ll feel he didn’t really grasp that chance last night including wayward shots. 5.5/10
Eddie Nketiah – always works hard, but last night was proof (if needed) that we are very light in the striker department behind star man Jesus. 5.5/10
Subs:
Takehiro Tomiyasu – a nice run out after his weekend heroics, solid again. 7/10
Thomas Partey – only real involvement was a booking in his 6 minutes on the field. 4.5/10
Granit Xhaka – professional cameo to see out the game. 7/10
Marquinhos – didn’t really do enough to stake a claim in his 20 minutes. 5/10
Gabriel Martinelli – didn’t get into the game, but didn’t need to, more important matches on the horizon. 5/10
