Arsenal Women to face Bayern Munich in Champions League quarter finals

Arsenal Women will go up against German champions Bayern Munich in the quarter finals of the 2022-23 UEFA Women's Champions League. The first leg will be played in Munich on March 21st or 22nd, before the two sides meet at Emirates Stadium on March 29th or 30th.

Arsenal came out on top in the ‘Group of death’ of this season’s competition, recording a remarkable 5-1 win against current holders Lyon on their way to topping Group C, which also contained Italian champions Juventus. Topping the group meant that Arsenal had to be drawn against a runner up from another group, meaning that either Roma, PSG or Bayern Munich would be taking on Jonas Eidevall’s side.

Bayern Munich only finished behind Barcelona in Group D on goal difference in the group stage, but the German outfit currently sit in third place in the Frauen Bundesliga, behind Frankfurt and league leaders Wolfsburg. England midfielder Georgia Stanway is enjoying success with the club after making the switch from Manchester City in the summer, scoring three goals in the group stage.

The draw, assisted by former Arsenal and England striker Ellen White, also took another step to plotting the path to June’s final in Eindhoven, with the semi finals also announced. If Arsenal are to progress against Bayern, the Gunners will face the winners of PSG v Wolfsburg in late April. Wolfsburg knocked Arsenal out of last season’s competition in the quarter final stage.

Returning to domestic football, Sam Kerr scored four as Chelsea thrashed West Ham 7-0 to reach the Conti Cup final last night, where they will meet Arsenal on Sunday March 5 at Selhurst Park.
