Player ratings: Wolfsburg Ladies v Arsenal Women
2-0 (Roord, Williamson OG) Wolfsburg win 3-1 on aggregate
March 31, 2022, Kick-Off 5:45pm
Volkswagen Arena
UEFA Women’s Champions League quarter-final
Manu Zinsberger 5.5/10
Came out to try and deal with the delivery for Roord’s goal but in the end was nowhere near it. Apart from that she punched crosses away strongly and made an excellent stop with her legs towards the end of the first half, but will be very frustrated with Williamson’s own goal going straight through her legs.
Noelle Maritz 5.5/10
Went up against her former club again and worked tirelessly but couldn’t prevent the delivery that led to Williamson’s own goal.
Leah Williamson 6/10
Her distribution was a shining light in a night to forget for Jonas Eidevall’s side, but was left red-faced after putting the ball into her own net for Wolfsburg’s second trying to defend a ball into the box.
Lotte Wubben-Moy 7/10
The hero at the Emirates last week was assured in defence and dealt with crosses well despite the shortcomings of some around her.
Steph Catley 4.5/10
Struggled in the back 3, especially in her positioning alongside Wubben-Moy, often leaving too much space for Wolfsburg to expose. Had an improved second half.
Frida Maanum 5/10
Received treatment for an injury in the opening minutes and had a very quiet night, with Arsenal missing the injured Lia Walti.
Kim Little (C) 6/10
Unable to start any attacks from the middle of the park despite using all of her fantastic close control to beat the Wolfsburg press.
Vivienne Miedema 4.5/10
Visibly frustrated at some of Arsenal’s defensive failures but it was a poor display on her part too, often losing the ball in good areas. Hit the crossbar in the second half with a header.
Katie McCabe 5/10
Had very little chance to go forward on either flank, wasted possession at times.
Stina Blackstenius 4.5/10
Few opportunities and few touches upfront, one of many on the ‘night to forget’ list. On the wrong end of an incredible save by Schult.
Tobin Heath 5/10
Worked hard after her fantastic assist in the first leg, playing as a wing-back but was mostly helping out in defence. Perhaps rightly substituted at half-time.
Caitlin Foord (Sub, 45’) 6/10
Replaced Heath on the left and was more of an output for the Gunners in attack.
Nikita Parris (Sub, 71’) 5.5/10
Struggled to make her mark on the game after coming off the bench.
Jordan Nobbs (Sub, 71’) 5/10
Made her 250th Arsenal appearance but in a losing cause.
Laura Wienroither (Sub, 79’)
Subs not used: Lydia Williams, Hermione Cull, Jen Beattie, Simone Boye
