Arsenal Women take on Wolfsburg in the semi finals of the UEFA Women’s Champions League. Tommy Stroot’s side knocked the Gunners out of last year’s competition at the quarter-final stage and are currently second in the Frauen Bundesliga, behind Arsenal’s quarter final victims Bayern Munich.
Arsenal fans will once again make the journey to Wolfsburg, this time for the first leg, on Sunday April 23. The game will kick off at 3:30pm local time, 2:30 in the UK, and will be played at the 30,000 capacity Volkswagen Arena, rather than the smaller AOK Stadion where Wolfsburg play the majority of their football.
Due to the semi-finals of the Champions League being played on a weekend, Arsenal’s trip to Manchester United has had to be moved to an earlier date of Wednesday April 19 at Leigh Sports Village. With the title race hotting up, this game will have real significance as the league leaders United try to push for their first ever WSL title against a resurgent Arsenal side.
Arsenal will host the second leg at Emirates Stadium, where over 24,000 tickets have already been sold. The Gunners played all of their home group stage games there as well as the quarter final second leg and three WSL games this season.
It’s set to be a fantastic occasion as the game will take place on Monday May 1, a Bank Holiday, at 5:45pm UK time, so the ticket sales will continue to grow as Arsenal fans look to help their side to their first Champions League final since 2007, when Arsenal beat Swedish side Umea 1-0 over two legs.
Arsenal are selling cheaper early-bird tickets for the second leg up until Tuesday, and tickets for the game in Germany are already available for away supporters on arsenal.com.
