Dial Square Win First Silverware
Dial Square etched their name into history on Tuesday night (April 2) after beating Knaphill Athletic 4-1 to clinch their first league title since the club was founded in 2020, writes Andy Fitzsimons.
It was the non-League side’s 10th straight victory in the Surrey County Intermediate League (Western) Premier Division, which secured promotion to the Surrey Premier County Football League (step 7) – a feeder league to the National League System (steps 1-6) – with five games remaining.
They have lost just once in 27 league and cup games and striker Harry Rice has already beaten the League’s top goal-scorer record (from 2015-16) after netting 35 goals (43 in all competitions) in 21 games.
Speaking after winning the league title on Tuesday, Dial boss Steve Brown said: “I thought the players gave an excellent account of themselves against Knaphill Athletic, and in difficult playing conditions.
“There was a lot at stake, so I was curious to see how they would deal with the pressure.
"However, they didn’t disappoint. It was a professional performance and I couldn’t be more pleased for them to win the league and make history for the club, in more ways than one.
"This season has been one of, if not my most enjoyable season in football - I can't praise the lads enough for their quality, work ethic and commitment.
“To win the league with five games remaining is a great achievement for everyone associated with the club and I hope it's a stepping stone for us to kick-on again next season.
“I would like to thank the club’s management committee and the fans who have supported us rain or shine. The support from all over is greatly appreciated,” added Brown.
Dial’s success this season has been unprecedented
The Surrey-based club, which is 100% fan-owned, currently groundshare with Isthmian League side Chertsey Town.
To date, they are thought to be the first senior club in English football to achieve three consecutive promotions in their first three full operating seasons.
In their 21 leagues games to date, Dial have amassed an incredible 92 goals, which equates to 4.38 goals a game. They have also scored seven or more goals in almost 25% of their league fixtures, making them one of the most formidable teams in British football.
